^That Lisa is pretty cool like the Icon.
But even if those canards were fully-rotating elevators, it would still be super scary landing in the heavy chop.
(ie the wrong angle at contact and that thing instantly becomes a fast submarine.)

If you know, you know...note the HAZMAT placard. :p

..related, an editorial cartoon during the same time period...a husband was gifting his wife a new car, and she exclaimed, "Oh, a new Pinto with Firestone 500 tires!!"

As a kid, a neighbor banker and ANG pilot had a Gen1 Toronado. I remember seeing it barrel past our house every afternoon for years and each time thinking "That thing is huge and weird."

HobieMarty 01-02-2022 11:13 AM

Had an Aunt and Uncle that had a 1st Gen Toronado back when the car was new and I thought it looked cool. My Uncle was in the Air Force, I had 2 Uncles in the Air Force on my Dad's side of the family, married to my Dad's sisters and they were both name Bill, Uncles that is, not Aunts. Lol.
Uncle Bill was a cool/quirky sort of guy, always showing us kids magic tricks or telling riddles to make ya think and he was an excellent photographer.

My Aunt and Uncle's Toronado was this body style, Gen 1. I've always thought the doors were unique with that rear handle so the rear passenger could actually open the door, very different, way before child safety locks!!! https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...c2c5c57bfe.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...590207ecc2.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...1b2e03f82f.jpg
