Today, September 17, is Drive Your 356 Day.

Anyone else here drive their 356 today?

In observance of this special day we took my '56 coupe for a 30 mile drive. I also got my Speedster out of deep storage. I haven't seen it since I put it away a year ago. Unwrapping it was like opening a Christmas gift. Sadly, the carburetors are in Arizona being rebuilt so I only drove it in the sense that I steered and used the brakes while Vicki pull us up to the shop with the golf cart.

In retrospect it's utterly terrifying how exposed the drivers were back then. In quali they had up to 1,500hp, with turbo lag measurable by an hour glass and were controlling that raging fury while sitting in a bathtub with no protection to the upper body.
