I found a couple of older MR2 MK4 concepts.

Pinched from another site... "This aircraft is one of the largest ever built, with a length of 73,8 meters (comparing with 73 of Airbus A380)"

Not meant to fly high enough to go out of ground effect, although that example has enough aircraft-like controls to perhaps get away with it for a while. That guy must really like the Tyrell 6 wheeler because the aerodynamic concept behind the design did not even work out so well in F1, and on a kart aerodynamics are pretty bad no matter what.

I worked on the Elf 6 wheeler (in South Africa) . and Aero was not the only goal .. there is an important thing called, contact patch ... Tyrrell P34 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Thats when F1 was more . Dream it, build it, race it |

Second, I was thinking that the contact patch is dependent on tire stiffness (pressure largely) and normal force (weight and downforce). If you merely fit two tires where there was once one it would seem that the contact patch would be the same. However, if you want to run lower pressures and increase the contact patch and get into a better coefficient of friction due to non-linearities in friction vs. load, you get more heat in the tire due to deformation. If you increase the diameter to make it cooler, then the tire sticks up high and messes up suspension geometry and aerodynamics, but if you do not have to have the rubber in a circle and can split it up into two tires then the aero is better for a given contact patch... Am I going in circles with this reasoning? |
I pretty much stopped watching modern F1. The tracks are lifeless and there is no penalty for making a mistake (crashing) except at Monaco. The cars are nothing more than spec racers now with different front wings. No more front exhausts and blown diffusers next year.
I wish they would bring back fan cars, 6 wheels, ground effects, etc. |
It's pretty common knowledge that the lack of Goodyear developing a front tire for these car was thier downfall.
