"NO. 3" has just gone through restoration televised on Nova the other night. It is amazing how this locomotive was built in the first place because of the work it took to restore each and every part with modern equipment. They made new drive pins for the drive wheels to such close tolerance that they had to freeze them in liquid nitrogen to install them. Something they didn't have a hundred years ago. Also, No. 3 was in just about every Hollywood western, Back to the Future and Petticoat Junction as well. |
