Talk to Tabdula, the grand master.
Post some pics of them, my Brother has a couple of Civil War pieces that our Grandfather used, so know a bit about them.

Surprised Tabs hasn't chirped in. Can ya post some pics? I'm not interested in buying and have zero knowledge but it would be cool to check them out. I wonder what has to be done to them to make them ready to fire? Would you or would / could it harm them thus reducing value?

Yep PM me, and or post pics and descriptions including any barrel or frame markings and general condition. CW guns are black powder, after checking that the gun is in good working condition and that there are no barrel obstructions they are generally safe to fire as is. I wouldn't pump up the loads on them, but with light loads they should be fine. I doubt anyone would be using them for anything but target shooting anyway. They do need immediate cleaning after firing as Black Powder is extremely corrosive.

Sorry about the delay. I'll get up some pics tomorrow. I think one is a Spencer Repeating rifle and the other is a Harpers Ferry musket. I did a little research a couple of years ago and the Spencer was made and issued prior to the war. I'll get the stuff soon. I also have a sword that I'll check into Thanks.

![]() ![]() ![]() Here are some to get started. The only marking I could find now are at the top of the gun shown. "Spencer repeating rifle company. Boston Mass. Pat'd March 6, 1860". I think there are some markings somewhere else with a serial number, just can't find it tonight. The gun is in really great condition and could be fired anytime. My Dad bought is from some where in Virginia in the 70's on one of are many trips to Civil War battlefields. Thanks for the help. |

Great find and make sure that they go to a good home.
Tabs comment about black powder is spot on. Us old time black powder shooters are religious about cleaning them after firing. Some even remove the barrel (if possible) and clean it in the bathtub to make sure all of the residue is out. Any idea on the caliber of the rifle?

the make a reproduction spencer. fun to shoot, and your not messing with an piece of history. and didn't realize they made them pre war. must be a very early gun.
http://www.cimarron-firearms.com/RepeatingRifles/Spencer.htm most civil war weapons were cranked out by the hundreds of thousands. and not worth as much as you'd think. but any repeater is very desirable. if you can tie the gun to an individual soldier or battle, that will instantly double the value.
