My girlfriend had this 2003 TT for a few years:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1202520415.jpg She used it as a daily driver and had a long commute in the heart of L.A. - Pasadena to LAX (30ish miles each way) roundtrip everyday. It was an excellent car and the only real reason she opted to trade it was that it was a six speed - which she preferred - but in that stop and go driving it was getting old. She traded it for an MB SL55: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1202520632.jpg ...which she later got rid of because frankly, she was getting too many looks down near the airport and was afraid of getting jacked! My comment is the car was excellent in every way. I would suggest you only buy the 220HP model (two tail pipes). The car has a lot more room in it than it appears to especially with the rear seat lowered. The tires are very low profile so they area concern if your city has sever pothole problems. Otherwise, get the car. Audi dealership was easy to work with...something I have never said about anyh other dealer. Best to you. Post what you buy, Dan |
Of the hundreds of awesome cars in that price bracket...its down to a Crossfire and a TT?
Oh Lord...help me! Maybe Chicken Little was right "The Sky Is Falling" Yasin |

I, for one, own a 2005 Crossfire. I have to say it is one of the best built cars I've ever owned. It is the Limited, base engine, not SRT, and it has PLENTY of power. It is small and confined, and very quiet. I think the design is beautiful. It has more power then my 86 Targa, much more in my mind. If this is going to be for your wife, I would suggest getting the automatic. It's much easier to drive. It's a hard car to place, because of its not being made any more. Who knows about future values. BUT, if you are looking at 2004 models, dont pay any more then 12-14K for it, because they are coming down in price. Where will they stop, who knows. It was built by Karmen in Germany, with 85% Mercedes parts, and sold through Chrysler dealers. Mine has a 7/70 powertrain warrenty, and you can buy a 8/80 bumper to bumper warrenty for about 1700.00. Hope this helps. If you need more info, PM me.

My '01 TT has been outstanding - looks exactly like Dan's girlfriends car - silver and all. Dan are you sure it was an '03 - those rims are from '01. Anyway, the car has had zero problems so far at 49K miles in the year+ that I owned it. I had a GIAC chip installed which really transformed the power (in a good way) and have seen no drop in MPG. I average 24 mpg city/highway-traffic-jam. On a road trip to Santa Barbara I got 34 mpg going 80 mph nearly the whole way. Interior space is good but the if you're over 6'0 you may have issues seeing through the gun slit windshield. I recently took my son on a high speed adventure on a deserted East county road. After a pass to ensure a clean stretch of road we came back and hit 130 mph and the car was solid and still trying for more. I was the one who said enough. Not too bad for a 4 cyl turbo.
Known issues with the 01-03 TT is a faulty dash pod. They are pricey to replace and I read on a UK TT site that several folks got a successful lawsuit against Audi for free replacement. Like I said my TT has been solid so YMMV. Oh and the timing belt needs to get replaced at 5 years or 60K miles. That's a $1200 job and my car is nearing the deadline. I have no experience with the Crossfire but they do look good - just not as well done as the TT. |
IMO TT are very nice capable cars. A girl in our office had one and it never had a problem up to 100,000 miles.
The Crossfire, I think, has a lot of MB parts in it. As POP says, it is an SLK 320, but with a slightly larger body. SLK 320s are pretty fast, BTW. I like the TTs only because they're a little smaller than the Crossfire, but that's about it. AMGs - as Todd asks, no, under $20K is rare at best, and more likely a chewed-up example. Besides which, where the heck will you use that AMG power anywhere but a race track? |

Audi...As you know...The American cars reliability...so so....If you wanna ride and not to pass your time in a garage...Go with TT.

Chrysler discontinued the Crossfire, so the TT is much preferred just on the basis of parts availability and resale value. Discontinued models usually lose greater resale value.
