They are only snobbish to 914s....I was in a fake 356. Differerent kinda fake....

If they pulled that crap in my 914, I would have insulted their manhood and farted in their general direction....justy like any other 914 driver...

typical PCA wine and cheese crowd.. I used to see the same attitude back in the north east..

I've been impressed with the Northwest region PCA autocross crowd.

The goal is to get everybody out there, having fun. If a car doesn't pass tech, plenty of hands try to do whatever it takes. If someone makes the effort to show up early in the morning, a long drive for most, let's not make it a waste of their time. The location is at an airport across Puget Sound from Seattle, so it's either a ferry ride, or a long drive around.

Last time I helped, we fashioned a stiff battery hold down out of stuff I rummaged in the tool box on my truck.

Really a nice bunch of friendly folks.

We have our autocross once per month at a fantastic facility. It is the local Sheriff's training center, road course. We are VERY laid back and don't award trophies and we really don't bother to run classes. We only time it so the driver can see if that run was better than the run before. It is all for fun.

One of the PCA members from a different region showed up. As we were finishing up he said he felt like part of the family after just one autocross. His local region had a "Cliques" that were not friendly. He said after several events he felt like he was imposing on them by just being there.

We invited him to return and he was just astonished that we had a road course that we have to slow the track down with gates and pylons.

^ Similar in Phoenix too. Very inclusive and supportive. Wide mix of cars. Really there for us newbies too. I get the idea they are trying to keep the numbers from falling too low.

They have been a very pleasant introduction to this side of the sport for me, also the case at the track days .

Not a lot of older aircooled cars, but about in proportion to what you see driving around. Very few to be seen on the roads too.

I belonged to the SDPCA many years ago for quite a while & went to several activities & events. I eventually quit. The events were mostly interesting, but the wine & cheese crowd description is pretty spot on. I just didn't feel much connection. I'm really friendly to people in general whereas most seemed stuffy & a bit puffed up which made everything seem like a mechanical, going through the motions type of thing.

This thread and the replies herein are exactly why the POC thrives in Southern CA. The San Diego and Orange Co PCA regions both have their share of snobs and control freaks. I've been a PCA member for 17 years I think. I've only been to two breakfast meetings and one boring winery tour. zzzzz zzzzz zzzzz zzzzz

Forget the cone bowling with the wine and cheese-my house is bigger than yours crowd and go run on real race tracks in the PDS series with the POC.

Not sure why this was resurrected? 2008 is the time I stopped doing Time Trials / DE partly because the safety rules were getting ridiculous for cars with even minor updates such as springs. It would have required losing the stock seats in my 993 ... not a slippery slope I will get on after going ape on my SC in terms of track prep ...

I like car clubs I just prefer not to get involved in the inner politics.

PCA seems to attract those with political ambitions.
Elections, presidents, board members and chairs for every type of event.
It's like a dysfunctional junior chamber of commerce or Condo association.
Where Dale Carnegie graduates try to sharpen their swords.
Those involved do a mostly great job too. :)

Still it gets petty and sometime confrontational.
After volunteering and attending a couple of board meetings,
my wife and I stopped volunteering but kept our PCA membership.

I was a guest at a board meeting where this one male board member starts to raise his voice at a chairperson (wife of another member).
At that point I dropped out.
If that was my wife I'd of had to explain to loudmouth that he can yell at his wife like that but not mine. :rolleyes:

I know of 45 year PCA members that somehow survive in that environment.

I just like race and sports cars and found my car hobby enjoyment was not improved by the governance of junior Politicians.

Ive been a member in the pnw for a while. Though not sure why, doesnt seem like there are too many diy/hot rod members. A couple of the tech sessions have been intersting, but pouring over someones blank check build doesnt do a lot for me.

Seems like most of the memebers are the white glove concourse and tooting their horn on the Facebook page to announce they are trading their 1 yo 150k+ car for a new one. Lots of wine and cheese up here...

Wish there was a club more geared to hod rodders and diy. Maybe there is and I just dont know about it though.

Ayles, you found it. It's right here…Pelican Technical Forum. We're all a little spread out, but if you take the initiative, you can usually get the local guys together. I could never have done my restoration project without the Pelican Tech forum.

….If you think the PCA is white glove concourse snobbery, give the guys at R-Gruppe or 911S registry a try. They make PCA politics and posery look like layed-back beer drinking grease monkeys.

I think you're looking for the autocross gang.

Unless there has been a dramatic shift (I missed most of them this year) there are plenty of air-cooled and/or hot rodded cars.

The only club events I attend require a helmet.
