Bummer, I remember him from a lot of roles.

Not only "Jaws" but "The French Connection" and "All That Jazz" among a host of others.

Yeah, he played Fosse in All That Jazz. Wasn't even a dancer.
I guess he was Hackman's sidekick in the French Connection?
Best cop movies ever, including the sequel.

Wow, now I feel really old. My wife has told me that I remind(ed) her of him.

i best liked him in that cold war movie where he crossed the dmz just to go piss off his Russian counterpart, forgot the name of that movie

Steve Carlton 02-10-2008 09:54 PM

I liked him in everything in I saw (and missed a lot of what he did), such as "Marathon Man", "2010", and "52 Pick-Up", in addition to those mentioned above.

Roy "Thats a bad hat, Harry" Scheider.

The just played "2010" where Roy played Professor Haywood, the main guy who touched the monolith in 2001. He was a great actor and best remembered in Jaws as Chief Brody. Best chemistry ever on the screen of the crew onboard a vessel (Quint, the Chief of Police and Hooper).

"Hey Chiefy Put the Fire Out, Won't You"?

Of course, he uttered one of the most famous lines in movie history...

QUINT: Stop playing with yourself, Hooper. Full ahead, if you please.
BRODY: Full ahead. I can do full ahead. Why don't you come back here and chum some of this *****?
(Shark's head emerges from the bloody water, revealing the animal's size for the first time. Brody stumbles backwards into the cabin)
BRODY: We're going to need a bigger boat.

One of my all-time favorite movies.
