I can understand why Mr. Cleese is upset, after all, the US is without a doubt Great Britan's most significant contribution to the global society. Based on the fact that England couldn't govern us in the 1700's, and can't really make its own bed (Ireland?), I doubt they could do any better today. Since their army works for us it is a moot point anyhow. The US is very aware of how superior German cars are, the reason there are still US car companies is because they haven't sunk into the cesspool from which British cars were produced. If you Brits would quit playing around with tea (and the proper time to drink it and all), start drinking coffee and man up, possibly you would be able to fulfill your proper role in society. Getting so exercized over pronunciation, maybe therapy would do you some good.

Sorry if this sounds arrogant and rude,
but the again, maybe we do understand British humor. At least we get the irony of the British feeling superior to anyone else.

The British have a term, I don't think you guys use it, called a wind-up.

I doubt Mr. Cleese is upset. He's a comedian (know Monty Python?) and this is a humorous bit that pokes a bit of fun at Americans. It's not mean. It's a joke. I hope some here understand humor and the benefits of a thick skin.

Actually, you guys are second on the list. The British LOVE making fun of the Germans. Such as singing ♪ ♪ Two world wars and one world cup (soccer) ♪ ♪ to them.

John Cleese did not write this! Read the snopes article from page two!

frogger,
Sorry, this is mainly an American audience, and often we need to use green print, or emphatically express the fact that what is written is a joke. I was responding to a joke with a like-minded joke in reply. Just clarifying.

I see. I agree the green text would've helped me a lot. Sorry. :)

the Brits made the first computers - and used them to crack German war codes...

hamburgers were invented by the Germans - heard of Hamburg?

- just a few factual corrections, people.

!!!! I never saw green print until PPOT!!!! Oh my gawwwd! In all that I've read, how much I must have misinterpreted! To even imagine that one might grasp something given the context whithin which it is written! We need green ink, we need green ink, we need.....

Time for another Merlot (the t is silent!!) to further ponder this dilemma.

Hey! Maybe s new punctuation mark - little frogs (lottsa them are green, eh?) used like quotation marks :D?

I don't think your correction is warranted, who said the German's didn't invent the hamburger?
