According to the 2007 issue, Generally not so good...the black spots (bad)
are in the areas of Fuel system, electrical, and audio system. Half black in climate system, brakes.

In the same class, if reliability is the goal? Toyota Camry...no big shock there, right?

We have one (wife's) who has finally seen the light ..she wants her own P.
The Volvo has been flawless /EXCEPT...A/C drain line..drained into the interior..pricey to fix.
For a Volvo , that car has SERIOUS blindspots...it's solid.

Solid red (good)
engine, major
engine cooling
transmission
drive system
ehhaust
paint/trim
Half red:
engine, minor
body integrity
Half black:
climate system
brakes
power equipment

Used car verdict was solid black...like I said, not so good.

This the consumer reports ranking...I've never really looked at one.

(edit) BTW, the Consumer Reports car issue is their April issue. The 2008 version should be out soon.
