Anyone here have an AT&T blackberry?...not blackout related
 

I had my IT consultant switch my blackberry from Verizon to AT&T as the Verizon coverage was just horrible in my house, so bad that if I didn't plug my berry in for the night, it would be dead in the morning from searching for a signal.

The new BB curve is a nice little device, I have great AT&T service by my house, perfect I thought...not so. Since I run a small company we do not yet host our own email, we use Network Solutions and run POP server type email. So we can't run a blackberry server.

No problem in the past, just link the blackberry directly to the POP server and like magic instant on the go email. When we switched to AT&T I noticed that emails are taking 15-20 minutes to get to me on the blackberry. My IT consult calls them up and they tell her they can't guarantee emails will get to the blackberry in less then 10 minutes when using a POP set up!! The whole point of the berry for business is defeated!

Anyone have any experience with this? Any way around it? I assume I'm going to have to fight with AT&T to drop the contract and go back to Verizon, am I in the right here? Shouldn't they drop my contract for lack of an appropriate level of service?

I have an 8300 from ATT also. Sometimes its real quick, sometimes its not. I asked them and was told the same thing.

I don't think you'll succeed in having them drop the contract but, please do keep up posted.

Keep in mind that, if you need BB service ATT's coverage is the best out there.

I have one of the 8310 series with ATT and love it. I get emails and SMS messages within seconds of their being sent.

T-Mobile offers the Blackberry curve, which also works as a VOIP phone, when near a WIFI router. This even works internationally, so WIFI=free calls.

I have a Palm and use Active-Sync with an Outlook server, instant e-mails, no Blackberry outage...

Call T-Mobile to get the service activated. The curve will automatically switch between the celullular network and a WIFI connection. It is even supposed to work during a call.

None of the other carriers offer cellular/WiFi phone.

Thanks. I spoke with my IT person, she called Verizon and they claimed the same thing, if you run a BB with POP3 email they won't guarantee quicker delivery then 15 minutes, my friend's experience though is that the delay with Verizon is rarely longer then 3-4 minutes.

As it turns out, my original BBerry is with a small verizon reseller called Mobeo, the email service with them is outstanding, instant, the rub, no international service which in the coming years is a problem for me...
Probably time to fight AT&T and go with Verizon...
