Flight of the Conchords

Anyone seen the show? It seems like, over the past two weeks or so, the show and the duo's stand-up act has caught fire in popularity terms with people my age (22-30ish). I personally think that they're great...

I trip over my jeans, but thats ok I just turned it into a sexy dance...

HAHAHAHAH. You can lower the age group to 20 CJ. My friends and I love watching this and then watching some Top Gear. The humor is just out of this world.

The songs are great, but the show isn't.

Respectfully, I disagree. The show is very funny and has that quirky/funny/kinda sad vibe like a Wes Anderson movie. The more you watch the show, the funnier it gets (a la ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT) because a lot of the characters' personalities show through in subtleties.

My girl friend put me onto this show (she's a Kiwi so ever so slightly biased!) I have seen the pilot at the South by South West festival thing and most of the songs, I like what I've seen so far, just waiting for one of the channels to re run the series.

CJFusco 02-17-2008 07:12 AM

Here in the states it's "On Demand" on digital cable and is still re-run on HBO... also out on DVD... but I'm not so sure about in the Old World.

Perhaps that's it. I loved Rushmore. Couldn't wait for his next film. I was disappointed in Tennenbaums. I found Steve Zizou to be unwatchable. And I fear that Darjeeling Limited will be as bad.

With all due respect to Wes Anderson, I'd say that Flight of the Conchords is less tedious than Anderson's (recent) stuff.

Quirk really isn't that clever.

It should be out on Betamax any time soon! ;)

Currently I only have 50 odd channels of crap to rifle through, I don't really see the appeal in having hundreds via Satellite or cable.

CJFusco 02-17-2008 02:03 PM

That's a good point. I don't even watch tv except for baseball, Daily Show/Colbert, and the news. I've only seen shows like Conchords on DVD.

heya, i love the Conchords!
Used to look for them on the NZ comedy fest line ups for years. they only seemed to make it big when they got to the states, then they took off back here in NZ thru youtube before the programme started screening on NZ tv.

i generally like their standup song performances better but still enjoy the programme. The series is on dvd and I've seen the New York performance aired on TV and also available on dvd.

Jermaine has done some small time comedy movies. the last one was Eagle vs Shark which came out last year and is a dry napoleon dynamite type of humour. Another good one was The Tongan Ninja. Real b grade looking but fun!

As you can see, I posted this last year and it got 0 replies:(

I've thought it was great from the start, but for many it just doesn't connect. Sort of like the "Office" but on a much smaller scale. The new season should be starting up.

CJFusco 02-17-2008 05:56 PM

It seems like it caught fire once it hit DVD. I remember hearing about it back when it started on HBO, but then it went out on DVD in late Jan or so, and all of a sudden it seemed like everyone was talking about it.

Of course, a lot of its sudden popularity might have been from YouTube - I know many people that had seen the "music videos" before actually seeing the show.
