Another one of lifes' losers, drug addled mind (I stopped taking my meds.) unable to live up to their own or someone's (MOMMY?) expectations wants to prove he can effect someone else (stranger) and make his mark in history.

You may not be able to name three of the 9-11 hijackers, or any of the previous postal/school shooters, etc. But their names ARE forever listed in history and easily referenced ...that cannot be erased.

Think there's a solution to random shootings? Pfffft!
Consider this: Who would be one of the most 'protected persons' that walk the planet?

JFK
Reagan

( I rest my case)

You have now asked both Rick and I essentially the same question, while offering nothing of you own. Maybe some hand wringing (I want all of them), but no suggestions whatsoever on how to accomplish that.

Please do not confuse your response in a shooting situation (I was on the ground praying for my life) with how others might respond. While it may very well be true that ...soiled shorts will be first on the list in your particular case, there have been a great many citizens for whom it was not.

Not first on their list, not second, not even on their list. They responded and put a halt to further injury or even loss of life at the hands of a criminal bent on mayhem and destruction. A firearm remains the single best tool at an honest citizen's disposal under these circumstances. Many of us are not content to hide and simper "please don't let him get me" as he goes about killing others. Apparently you are. How shameful.

So again, I ask you, what would you suggest?

Illinois' second-largest university is in Normal, Illinois State University.

NIU is a largely a commuter school for people that live in the Chicago area.

Today was surreal around town. In an average day, I see .5 police officers--one every-other day.

Today, I saw no less than 50 police officers. Dozens cruising down Veterans Parkway. More sitting in parking lots--watching. I didn't even venture anywhere near campus today. All kinds: state police, Bloomington Police, Normal Police. Many, many unmarked cars.

I thought it prudent to put off ordering my G26.

Well, Daley waited 4 days before opening his big fat mouth and politicizing the shootings:

Mayor Richard Daley and other elected officials announced their annual push for new gun-control legislation Tuesday, this time using the fatal shootings at Northern Illinois University and the Lane Bryant store in Tinley Park as stark illustrations of the need for action.

The package of proposals includes several bills that have been introduced repeatedly in Springfield, before meeting heavy opposition from gun-rights advocates. They range from a measure requiring state licensing of gun dealers to a proposal banning semiautomatic assault weapons and .50-caliber rifles
Just the kind of weapons used in these shootings.
