WTF Microsoft - Office 2007

Why oh why did they change the whole functionality from office 2003 to office 2007??????????????????????????????????????????

OMG - it is so difficult to work around vs 2003.

I find myself hitting help more than ever. I like some of the conditional formatting on excel - nice to have colors on my spreadsheet = but I would not call this "upgrade" intuitive.

am I the only one?

Mule 02-15-2008 06:05 AM

So I'm not the only person that was fit to be tied? I have actually found an improvement or 2, but it still makes me curse.

JeremyD 02-15-2008 06:08 AM

I've had it for 6 months - but man there are just a few things that I have to do where I am just frustrated beyond belief - to the point of chucking the computer in the canal.

Good god - what idiot at MS greenlighted this crap???

Paul_Heery 02-15-2008 06:10 AM

You are not alone. I've been using it for 8 months and not a day goes by where I do not curse the interface.

Also, from an interface designer Why Microsoft's ribbon sucks

While there are some definite improvements, it is so different than '03 that I still struggle. I have been using it for 6 months.

I have turned out some pretty cool stuff on Word.

I like Office 07. I think the design is superior to 03. If you don't like it, customize it.

Neilk 02-15-2008 06:32 AM

There are some great customizations possible like adding icons to the Quick Access Toolbar, but I agree WTF?

Has anyone figured out how to change the Highlight color in Excel when you are searching for a cell. The find feature works fine, but I find it almost impossible to actually see the highlighted cell.

BlueSkyJaunte 02-15-2008 06:32 AM

Fortunately my IT dept is stuck in the past (budget cuts), and we're still on '03 across the whole company.

s_wilwerding 02-15-2008 06:58 AM

I think this is a great alternative to Office or Open Office. A little slow because it runs on the Eclipse framework, but I've been using it for awhile and really like it.

NICKG 02-15-2008 07:13 AM

if you think that 07 is bad, we use a cheap knock off
here it is http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1203091976.jpg

Opening/editing/saving the new formats since before Office '07 was available via OpenOffice on ubuntu with Novell's doc format extensions...

dhoward 02-15-2008 09:18 AM

Had to build a 20-page presentation on our system capacity outlook one day after I got the upgrade rammed down my throat. Talk about shytting one's self.
Getting a little more used to it now. Good interface to sharepoint, which is where we have to keep all of our crap now...

+1.

After installing Open Office we removed all the ms office installs here. Haven't regretted it for a minute. Great stuff.

No, sir. You're not the only one. I had a trial version, and aside from the cool look, the functionality was a disaster. With Microsoft Word, I had to literally relearn the software buttons to file, bookmark, spell check, etc. Plus, there seems to be no "overstrike" function, which I use often when editing.

It's not just Office 2007, BTW. The version for Mac, Office 2008, is also hopelessly overdone - at least Microsoft Word is.

I reverted back to the older versions. At some point I'll go with Mariner Write or some other small word processing software, that just types, thank you very much.

JeremyD 02-15-2008 10:16 AM

That's good to know - and glad to hear that I'm not the only one -

masraum 02-15-2008 10:18 AM

The new "interface" is crap compared to the old one. It also seems slower to me, so probably more of a memory hog.

Scott R 02-15-2008 10:19 AM

cut paste and undo is terrible, just to name a few, an epic fail by MS.

Zeke 02-15-2008 10:24 AM

I hated to loose Office '95. Keep it simple.

I went Open Office because I wanted to stay legit on my new system at home, and Office cost WAY too much for what you get. I might give Linux a try at some point... I never have had a chance to see if games I play (Civ4 and half-life mostly) would run on it.
