'Yellow and Black Racer' VW Bug
Have any of you seen one of these? I was leafing through my "Original Bug" book and read about this. Quote:
"Based on the 1303S, Volkswagen launched a limited edition 'Yellow and Black Racer' of which 3500 were produced.....the body work was painted yellow with the bonnet and engine lid in matt black. In keeping with the Rennsport image, there were sport seats with integral headrests, a leather-trimmed steering wheel and 51/2J sports wheels with 175/70x15 low-profile wheels". Apparently there were two more special editions that year, the City Beetle and the Big Beetle (with the 1600) Kind of cool. Resembles the LE 914's of 1974. Looks like the bumblebee too.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1203388721.jpg |

I have seen one at a VW show many years ago.
I have a buddy who used to have the Super Beetle "Formula V" model - similar set up with different colors and decals. |
Thanks for the link Jeff. I found this info from within the 1302 site. Interesting sport seats.

They sold sport bugs in Marathon Blue and the pictured yellow one. I think it was 1973, but not sure. If you want to know go to http://www.superbeetlesonly.com and they will be able to tell you. |
Baja Champion SE
The Marathon blue beetles were sold in 1972. Approx. 5500 were sold in Europe as Marathon beetles and 1000 were sold in the U.S. to celebrate VW's victories in the Baja 1000 from 1967-1971. You can see several of this version on either of these two websites www.1302Super.com or www.sebeetles.com. I own one too.
