HD-DVD: Caveat Emptor

Stores are naming HD-DVD's in order to trick consumers into buying them.

Not really a trick. If you were going to buy a upscaling DVD player (which are about the same costs now) why not buy the one that can also play HD-DVD?

Exactly!

Thom, WTH is the problem with HD-DVD?

Clearly Sony has agressively pushed to sink HD-DVD. Sony was late to the market, put out a premature Blu standard, updated it (yet another standard) and proceded to manuver to wipe out competition. What I don't get is why so many are so happy to help Sony secure a monopoly.

I don't think anyone cares who one as long as there is only 1. It really is similar to the vhs betamax thing. Sony decided they weren't going to lose this time.

The adult industry sided with HD-DVD so I am not sure Sony is out of the woods yet.

The title selection sucks for both of them right now IMO.

HD DVD is DEAD!

You will see a few more new titles that are already in production but after that - its over. Paramount was the last big studio on HD. They have now gone to Blu-Ray.

And Sony is merely refusing to handle adult film DVD stamping. There are other Blu-Ray disc manufacturers for them to go to.

It's done.

+1

If the HD-DVD players upscale 'regular' DVD's, and stores are closing out the HD-DVD's because everyone know HD-DVD is dead, then this may be a great time to get one.

Why not just put that money towards a Blu-ray that upscales instead of having two players?

Well if the adult industry sided with HD-DVD, it sounds like Sony is already out of wood.
