What I find interesting is that many of the images of Blacks posted here are of uneducated lower class Blacks, which is a subtle way of promoting the idea that all Blacks are like that. Look around corporate America and you will see quite differently. It would be like posting images of trailer park type whites with mullets to depict what white people look like. Why not post images of Oprah, Tiger Woods, Colen Powell, Condi Rice, Michael Steele, to keep it fair and balanced? Whats with all the race discussions anyway?

No, it wasn't. More like shameful. Prejudiced, racist or otherwise.

Racism starts once one starts creating categories of race.(origins, genetic lineage.) Racism is amplified when one starts marking groups with genetically transmitted physical characteristics, for better or worse. --any trait that put one race as superior to another.

btw
Malcom X was a racist separatist.
Oprah is a racist ageist.
"Black history month" is a racist event, so is "i'm Irish day" (St Patric's)

...pretty much anyone can be allowed to be a racist of varying degree these day. tho' if you are of euro-lineage and lacking obvious genetically transmitted physical characteristics of an identifiable race, well expect to hear [scream]Racist[/scream] should you dare to note any differences. --Some people are just Waiting to be offended by you.

Oh, I see. So what you're saying is there is racism and racism light (prejudice).

Actually, it seems that he is saying that they are two different words...with different meanings...which they are.

In society, they are not perceived differently, which cancels out whatever meaning either has.

That's a serious issue Tobra. We all need to be able to identify and help fix problems within our society, regardless of which sub-culture is having the issue.

Qwaaak, qwaaak qwaaaak!

tiwebber 02-24-2008 03:24 PM

Thanks. This has all helped a bit.

An observation becomes racist when a broad judgment is passed on the observation that is either not true and berating and/or defined by negative emotion (true or not).
I think the above is fair. For example, I might ask "why most people in the NBA are black?". I might followup with my own answer. "I heard that it is because they have a longer achilles tendon."
  • its true that most people in the NBA are black
  • I dont have any negative emotion feelings on the subject
  • Its not my intention to berate
  • ...but it might not be true that they have a longer achilles tendon or that if they do, it makes any difference

I would suppose the followup statement could be considered a bit racist but I would suggest that it depends on your audience and might be considered careless and insensitive in some circumstances. Not racist though

Yeah, I want to see some Viet Namese representantion in the NBA!

Yeah, you are correct. I watched the Accenture Match Play event today and Tiger won the final and was so far ahead that he and Cink did not even play the final 7 holes.

I guess that means that ALL black guys can beat ALL white guys on the golf course.

That's how many of the fools here seem to use selected info or stats to generalize per their agenda.

On the other side of the coin...why are organization's such as the Black Congressional Caucus in our nations' capitol and the NCAA's Black Coaches Association allowed to exist in 2008 USA?

Just imagine if Bobby Knight had started a White Coaches Association!SmileWavy

As was posted in the Angry White Men thread last week, if someone isn't happy with where they are in life, that's not my problem. Its like when Kanye West said "George Bush doesn't Care about black people". well tell me when some black "leader" talked about the plight of poor or disadvantaged white people, or hispanics, or anyone of any race other than black?

Jefferson Parish had a sheriff for over 20 yrs named Harry Lee. He was a great big Chinese guy who wore a Stetson hat. There was a great video that's no longer available of his response to a bunch of black activist "preachers" who came to town to protest the shooting by a JPSO deputy of some thug committing a robbery. The line I will never forget went something like this: "I want to know where these preachers were last week when a young oriental girl who was pursuing the American dream BY WORKING, was shot down at her job by a black armed robber? I didn't see them then!" Speaks volumes doesn't it. Harry passed away a few weeks ago. RIP Harry.

Thats kind of a mute point. That would be like saying that the ASPCA should take on child abuse. We each have the causes that we want to fight for. In the same vain, I wouldn't expect the Chinese to start rallying for the mistreatment of Hispanics, and theres nothing with them if they don't.

Ah, you mean like how people merge, as synonymous, words like Morals and Ethics? You are right, much of society has an abbreviated vocabulary. (in a "living language" you're saying ignorance of the meaning changes the meaning? --interesting.) For those who want, there are distinctions of ideas/definitions which are represented by distinct words.

Because so many make that mistake, should we conclude that "Mute" is synonymous with "Moot" ? ...dd?
