Perimeter and garage alarm suggestions needed.
We are experiencing a rash of thefts in our neighborhood. We have a pretty good neighborhood watch going, but unfortunately the thieves seem to be winning for the time being.
I'd like to set up a motion sensor to be warned if anyone approaches the front door. Anybody have any experience with this "wireless visitor annunciator"? It looks like it would give us decent warning if anybody approaches the house while we are home. We do have an alarm as well. Any suggestions for alarming a garage? We did recently get a family dog for fun, not security, but she is a little too unreliable for the time being to leave uncrated while we are gone. Thanks!

I bought this one, and it seems pretty good. I have it in the garage with a different sounding door bell buzzer for an alarm. The batteries in the remote last about two years. I have the sensor about 300 feet from the house.

We had that sort of thing years ago and it was illegals getting into the outside parked car and using the garage door opener to open the door about 18 inches or so and then shimmy underneath. With the door that much open very few people notice it from the street. We had a neighborhood watch meeting and the invited officer had the specifics on the various crimes and that was the largest thing that stood out plus the time was early morning (3:00 AM or so). They finally got shot by the man down the street who was an insomniac and caught them coming in and one had a gun so he was covered. Anyways, we now have a full blown alarm and fire monitoring system and it does cover the garage door (moves an inch) on it's own sensor circuit so I can disable it.

LOL! Gotta love California...if there's a perp breaking in to your home, they MUST be armed before you can shoot them! ![]() Thank you Jeb Bush and the Florida legislature for allowing us to live free, safe & armed under the protection of the "Castle Doctrine". Now back to the topic at hand..."Neilk": DO NOT WASTE MONEY ON THE TOY MOTION SENSOR! Every squirrel, dog, leaf will trip it. You will then a) start ignoring it and/or b) turn it off. If serious about security, I would purchase a professional quality sensor: http://www.takex.com/products.php As to the garage, you can get automatic dead-bolts that are activated by the door opener (and don't leave your opener in the cars parked outside!). ![]() Last edited by Danny_Ocean; 02-26-2008 at 08:23 PM.. |
