I will with hold comment. I like to see custom cars but I am not sure about this.

No need to "hold comment". Even in Wayne's "Kindler, Gentler OT Forum...", that thing is just ghastly!!!!

legion 02-27-2008 10:45 AM

WTF!?

I don't get it at all.

It looks half-done, but I don't know what look he was going for, unless it is to make a car look like a giant coke spoon.

Even the poorly-done fiberglass jobs with all the strakes are trying to make the car look "racy".

id10t 02-27-2008 11:07 AM

Someone pls. ask him what the chassis number, transmission number, and engine number are...

pmajka 02-27-2008 11:08 AM

Ok, its a beautifully done Horror Show.

very talented fiberglass job....but....

tchanson 02-27-2008 11:09 AM

Looks like it may have actually started out 50 some years ago as a Devin D, which would at least make it historically interesting.

Until "Fiberglass Bob" got hold of it, that is.

356 powered does not necessarily mean 356 based.
The Devin D used VW components, including tub.

This fiberghastly car probably just has a 356 engine.
Since I don't know those engines well, I'll ask.... are we even sure what he has pictured is a 356 engine?

dafischer 02-27-2008 11:39 AM

I'd hate to see the life's work that this was a culmination of.

id10t 02-27-2008 11:43 AM

cashflyer - looks like one, but a Type 1 VW engine with a dual carb kit would look the same... only way to know for sure is engine casting #...

rsNINESOOPER 02-27-2008 12:42 PM

Fiberglass Bob should have been wearing a quality respirator during his lifes work to protect him from all the toxic resin fumes and chopped fiberglass. It looks to me that the effects of the extended period of exposure can be summed up using this "culmination of his lifes work" as a 3D representation of all that remains of his cognitive thinking. Finished or not, that is hands down one of the worst automotive design experiments I have ever poked my eyes on, even worst than the Pontiac Aztec.

widebody911 02-27-2008 12:45 PM

This is definitely a 356 or 912 engine

2 problems with his story.
1. it appears that there is no hole for a shifter. Hence its never been driven.
2.that motor looks like it hasnt run in years and it isnt installed so it doesn't have the correct motor.

targa911S 02-27-2008 01:27 PM

Sweet Jesus! Culmination of his lifes work?? Was he the plastic surgeon that did Cat Woman too? That just hurts to look at.

kach22i 02-27-2008 01:34 PM

I once saw a similar front end on a safety car, supposed to catch pedestrians in a basket when you hit them and not sever them off at the knees and send them bashing into the windshield.

Terrible ugly little thing, isn't it?

tabs 02-27-2008 03:54 PM

Its a what?

Sapporo Guy 02-27-2008 04:54 PM

I wonder why this wasn't picked to be used in "Back to the Future" ???

kstar 02-27-2008 05:01 PM

It's so bizarre, but I kind of like it.

Very weird.

Best,

Kurt

Aurel 02-27-2008 05:08 PM

I don`t see the point of putting a 356 engine in that horror. A VW motor would have been just as well. Oh well...

The baby Jesus weeps when he sees that car's shadow...

+1. At least it wasn't lowered, winged, 20 inch rims and huge splitter etc. It has a kind of Dali-esque presence...
