Fidel Castro - were we lied to?

I have recently been studying Cuba and Castro. It seems because the big financial interests in the US don't like his actions they would like him dead. Because we disagree we want him dead? There was corruption before him backed by the US government. We have seen this elsewhere in Central America. Whatever you think about him I believe you have to respect that he was an effective, hands on leader. And the best interests of Cuba were his goal.
I would appreciate your thoughts on him.

Cuba wasn't so insignificant when there were nukes 30 miles off of FL. It is dangerous to have communist idealist so close to epicenter of freedom.

re:"I am beginning to see that we are the real enemy of freedom"

I am having similar thoughts.

We hide behind "democracy" though.

It is the large business interests, not that they are not important. But they have been the root of most of the corruption, it seems. And a blind eye is then turned to it.

What would you expect your US government to do for you if Castro stole 850 million pesos (1960 value) of your property?

YOu do not get it. The country is poor as hell, woman do not even have kotex, and he has over 500M USD is Swiss Bank accounts.

There is no government. Just his appointments of his friends.

He seized all property from EVERYONE: All foreign investment and the Cuban citizens.

IMAGINE IF THE US GOVERNMENT TOOK YOUR HOUSE AND YOUR BUSINESS. THEN TELL YOU THAT YOU ARE MAKING TO MUCH MONEY RUNNING YOUR BUSINESS AND CUT THE RATE BY 80% AND DISTRIBUTE THE MONEY TO THE POOR AND/OR LAZY.

Hand on, he had his hand in the till for 48 years.

Now because he is old and frail, do we think he looks sweet. F&*n' give me a break.

Oh yeah, and he has violated all civil rights and is noted by all world organizations as an oppressive leader.

But what the heck, he has a cool beard and he use to sip mohitos with Che!

Are we Americans getting soft or what!!!

Just ask them.

Our fault is that we are an enemy of anyone who doesn't embrace OUR brand of freedom.

Where do we gets our facts from?
Do we believe everything we read in US papers?
From US TV?
I am not saying he was great.
I am saying the US itself promoted an environment in which Castro was better than what was. We did the same through the United Fruit Company in Central America in the 50's also.
I love my country. I question my government.
Wait, someone is knocking at my door.
See you later, they have come for me!!!!

Amazing...and scary! It is a shock that so many folks are so eager to support brutal dictators.

Not too shocking. "Progressives" adored Lenin, Mussolini, and Castro. And now they adore Chavez and soon they'll adore whatever tinpot dictator appears next on the world stage.

It is also amazing and scary that some would support a policy in Iraq that has caused tens of thousands of Iraqi civilians to be killed along with creating a reported 1,750,000+ Iraqi refugees. That policy is the President Bush policy.

If Fiel Castro ever did anything like that to any sovereign nation then we would have some grounds for hating him and isolating Cuba.

Cuba good, USA bad?

America the enemy of freedom?

Ok.

Sorry, these silly notions do not even warrant a more thoughtful reply.

Best,

Kurt

Our nation has has mindless leaders who have set up and supported many of the tinpot dictators of the past 50 years.

That is what we USA citiziens should be concerned about...not what Chavez and the citizens of Venezuela want to do inside their own nation.

The interesting thing is that we put him (Castro) there!!

explain that one. We do that every 15 or so years in Haiti!! take a wacko out of power, put a new one there, try to for our Democracy on them. After a few years he goes and turns wacko also.... and here we go again.

On a similar note!!
On a book I read a while back, it mention how the Bay of Pigs deal was set up to fail from the begining just to make JFK look bad. But again all this is some author's idea or interpretation.

We are probably doing the same thing in Iraq at this very moment. All of the recent "gains" have been because the Sunni have decided to become our part time buddies. Never mind that these are the same wonderful folks who were Saddam's base core that we invaded to get rid of.

Chances are that at some point in the future the very weapons we are supplying to the Sunni and the former Baathists will be used either against us or the people we want to be in control in Iraq.

Thus the policy of idiocy that seems to guide the USA in the Middle East.
