UK BiKE Magazine - Chris Geuting

Good Morning (it's 0900 on Monday morning here in Hong Kong!)

Ben off the forum after selling my Boxer Cup and going back to my trusty (but a bit rusty ... ) GS. Just got the April 2008 edition of BiKE magazine (UK mag) and there's another letter from Chris Geuting, which I thought I'd post for you, just for information. PLEASE NOTE that I've never had the pleasure of speaking to / meeting the chap, but I have read many a posting on this site. "TALKING Rs I always knew BMW's R1200R is a better bike for 90% of the R1200GS-buying riders that never leave the tarmac. Image aside, the R1200R is possibly the best motorcycle period. Capable and fun in the alps or the track, comfortable enough to commute or tour and able to carry passenger and gear. It's probably long lasting, timeless and easy on the wallet when it comes to fuel and maintenance bills. What's not to like? Maybe the small 18-litre gas tank and the fact that [it] is not as glorious as the latest track hack that the journos always seem to fall in love with. But they also don't have to live with it for the next five years of ownership, making monthly payments, riding not only on a few sunny days on the track. I just wish the R1200R could look as good as my R1100S. Maybe BMW can do a body kit ... Chris Geuting, California." The letter obviously stems from a report the previous month where BiKE journos tested the R1200R and rated it 'better than the R1200GS' for everyday, average man use. Anyways, posted for your viewing pleasure! Regards from Hong Kong! Nick

At least Chris writes his thoughts to the magazines, unlike the other 98% of us. And he's world famous in the BMW world, now playing in Hong Kong!

Maybe an autograph session at TOR.

He's persistant. Keeps rolling that BMW ball back up the hill.

I took an R1200R as a service loaner and rode it up and down the mountains for 70 miles. Doesn't hold a candle to an R1200S if you ask me.

The R1200R is a great bike / possible the best overall, but for me (the shallow man that I am) it is to plain/bland looking. I had the 1150r before and loved it, and was hoping that BMW would make the 12R either a bit more sexy/unique/special/different. When they do, the R along with the GS could be my next ride.

There's a letter from him in the BMW Owners News this month too! Ya gotta give him credit for tirelessness. I swear I've seen letters from him in six different mags.

If I wasn't a little vain I'd be driving a white Chevy Malibu and riding a plain vanilla Gold Wing.
