That's a great application for an Aztek.
Car thieves will not touch it... :D |

Well, at least the Aztec won't blow its oil all over the road 1 mile from your house when you need it to bring you to your first day at the company that will retire you in good stead....
IF you show up on time! That god-damn Jetta [I will **have a hard time buying** any VAG product, whether it be Volkswagen, Audi, Seat, Skoda, Lamborghini, or Bugatti....after owning my current 1997 VW Jetta GLX]. This car illustrates that the VAG corporate mind isn't with the consumer, it is with the bottom line. What the hell? If I wanted to support an automobile company that didn't give the first f*ck about its clientelle, then I would have bought a chevy cavalier instead of that Jetta. There I was thinking that the folks in Wolfsburg where actually different from the folks in Detroit. Hello? My dad bought a chevy chevette in 1980; It had all of 65 horsepower, it weighed over 2200 pounds, and because of its automatic transmission, it was capable of 1 mph per horsepower. That is, it wouldn't go over 65 mph. A few years later my brother bought a 1980 VW Rabbit diesel. He used to drive to Detroit up the expessway at times- 55 miles each way. He had a brick that he kept on the floor board- he'd set it against the gas pedal when it was all the way down, and that was his 70 mph "cruise control". This means that the engine was wide open for about an hour each way. Of course, it didn't care at all! I suspect that engine would quite happily run under water as long as you got air to the intake! NOTHING stopped that engine! Now: Why can't Volkswagen build their cars like that now? That '97 is worthless, and if you buy your kids a 3rd generation VW Golf/Jetta you are cursing them with problems. My VR6 Jetta goes like the proverbial "raped ape"- I'm not kidding, you floor that thing and when it gets above about 3500 rpm you best have both hands on the wheel because the speedometer unwinds toward 100+ mph in seconds! This car is scary fast- it will fool you via the automatic transmission, but if you plant your left foot, you will barbecue any four-cylinder Porsche in seconds, and work on the SC's and the early 928's. Yet... the quality is beyond CRAP! It makes Hyudai look good. Actually...this lack of quality? It probably MADE Hyundai! Pontiac has its' loser, as does VW. I suspect that one could find a Porsche-badged product that is actually a GREAT car, but just doesn't work overall.... N! |

In all seriousness, the Pontiac Aztek was easily the ugliest car to ever lumber across America's roadways. |
Agreed. My old 951 was modded, but didn't have heavy internal mods or heavy suspension mods. I'd walk 928s routinely (and 911s, and Boxsters, and Evos and lots of others. . .) I'm not saying the 928 isn't a good car - it is - but a heavily modded 951 will beat just about anything on the road, even today. It's a platform that can be made very, very fast.
They are, however, prone to exploding into flames at inconvenient times. |
Okay, I just had a Run'N"Coke so I am prepared to admit to something. I like the outdoors I kayak, mountainbike, snowboard, camp, all the good stuff. When I first HEARD about the Asstec I was very interested, dent resitant side mouldings, good cargo space, could tow a trailer, decent fuel economy, factory roof rack, it really sounded decent. Then, HOLY MOTHER OF JESUS, WHAT THE HELL IS THAT!!!!!!!! The first images made me want to jab a screwdriver into each eye socket.
I feel dirty and violated now. |
Aztek stole the ugly award from the Pacer

I rented one once for a trip out to the coast and back. Me and 4 buddies and my dog.
It was a pretty embarrasing ride. Not really practical, not really great. |
friend in Florida just bought a brand new 2005 Crossfire for $17K with less than 20 miles on it. Great deal even for a Chrysler..

I believe that people who buy Azteks must be the same people that are convinced into buying car insurance from a talking cartoon gecko.
I would like to nominate the BMW Z4 as being ugly enough to qualify for the Aztek/Pacer award. Not one line flows, just hideous. Another Bangle design that causes acid reflux just by looking. |
^ I disagree strongly. Whereas I don't like the cold, geometrical, mathematicians-wet-dream Bangle/"New Edge" designs at all, the Bimmer's long, sweeping, curved hood alone puts it a few tiers above Aztek. There is, simply, not a single other car that is ugly enough to claim to be a peer to the Aztek.

Some of the stuff that isn't brought to our shores is pretty ugly. Just about anything by Peugeot, Citroen, and Renault comes to mind. The now-defunct Rover also gets an honorable mention. Go to South America, India, or Asia. There are some cars made by U.S. and Japanese companies that are pretty ugly too. |
