What are you drinking tonight in honor..

Of St. Patty's Day?

I'm working the old standby Bushmills Blackbush Irish Whiskey (neat of course). I honestly don't think there exists a better [fairly priced] whiskey on the face of the earth.

Ahh an excellent choice. Jameson 12 was my standby until I stopped drinking beer then I had to look for something more [cough] affordable

Jameson 18 is the ultimate sipper in my opinion, so complex that you never get around to swallowing.

It is a nuisance however because everything is in toddlers preparation, so you need to down a pretty hefty volume in order to get any discernible effect.

daddy, how would you compare/contrast an irish whiskey like this to premium, single-barrel bourbons, my mainstays? lol..not a quiz, just wondering...the only 'whiskey' i drink ever has been sour mash, like jack daniels. i drink my whiskey/bourbon from a shot glass..one right after another until the job's done.

neither do I. Regular old Bush is probably my most common drink.

Hmm, that's tough to answer...kinda like describing a color. The Blackbush for instance is "soft" I roll it in my mouth for several seconds. Jameson is similar but more "bright", if that makes any sense. Maybe bold would be the right term? See it's hard to explain. I have found most American whiskey's to be harsh and "fumey", where you swallow right away because it's actually painful to roll in your mouth. I would love to hear what others say.

my experience has been that bourbons are sweeter than sour mash whiskey varieties..more sugar i'd guess. what about the irish whiskeys? honestly don't recall how they differ in taste..

maybe i know what you're saying. as i drink bourbon straight from a shot glass (if not the bottle..lol), i have found evan williams single barrel to be very 'not harsh or painfully strong and fumey', buti found knob creek to be so. woodford reserve is a bourbon i really like..kinda in between these where that factor's concerned. i agree that taste is a pretty subjective experience.
