The reason Budvar is called Czechvar here is because AH Busch blocked them from selling here in the states under their name, to the Czech company renamed it for sale in the states. People who know beer know Budvar. Would rather eat dirt than drink an American Budweiser, especially if there is a Budvar or Czechvar around. ~~~~~~~~ For a good discussion about the two companies go here: http://www.brandchannel.com/start1.asp?fa_id=191 "Harley gives a wry chuckle, however, when contemplating the vision of an American housewife taking home a crate of the Czech beer in mistaken belief that it is the American product, and thus accidentally converting her husband to Budvar. One suspects that Harley is happy for the dispute and the resulting confusion to run a little longer. As long as Anheuser remains frustrated in its attempts to take a stake in the Czech brewer, the dispute is probably helping Budvar more than hindering it. Perhaps any publicity is good publicity after all." ~~~~~~~~ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budweiser_Budvar |
Interesting to know. . .
The only time I've ever had a Budweiser that I didn't think was p1sswater was at the factory tour in Saint Louis years ago. I dare say it was actually enjoyable! But yes, 99.9% of the time it's utter garbage. Ever have Drayman's Porter? That's a quality brew. |
