Hells Angels tried to kill Mick Jagger in 1969?

I was stunned when I heard this...

That is not even surprising to me. After that deal in Altamont, they did not play Sympathy for the Devil for like 20 years. I thought it was common knowledge they wanted to kill Mick, had not heard of any specific plans though.

The HA had a Navy? That would have been a sight to see.

Sonny Barger makes no bones about the fact that he stuck a revolver in Jagger's ribs at Altamont. As the crowd was reaching near riot, the tough guy Stones were wimpering like little girls to get the hell out of there. Barger (quite rightly) perceived that if the Stones had quit playing, things would have gotten far worse. So he stuck that little revolver in Jagger's ribs from behind and whispered "keep singing, mofo..." in his ear.

Yeah I can see Sonny Barger in a boat, sailing out to get Mick Jagger...

I can see a coupla Angels getting loaded and saying, "Yeah lets get that little twerp." 2nd Angel, "Yeah I gotta boat lets sail out to his house and get em." 1st Angel "Yeah man, thats a plan, lets do it."

The American Angels were only used once for security and that was at Altamont. The Gratefull Dead and Jefferson Airplane had used them at other concerts in the Bay Area. The Stones had the English Poof variety Angels around at their Hyde Park Concert in July of 69. Jagger musta thought the English Poof Angels and the American Bay Area Angels were of the same stripe..did he ever have a rude awakening. The American Angels are the real deal bad boys which exposed Jagger and Richards bad boy image for the fraud that it was. Jagger soon realized he was nothing but a Show Business entertainer. Richards kept up the pretense for a few more years with his drug addiction and to this day still affects the mannerisms.

And it would have been a damn fast one, too. Just imagine Mick's lips in the water going "bbbbbrrrrr.....bbbbbbrrrrrr.........bbbbbrrrrrrrr. ...."

I can just picture it as an episode from Simpsons.

BTW, the start beat of 'Slave' on 'Tattoo You' is great.

Yup, the "bad boys" of British rock were certainly ill-prepared for who they met at Altamont. They were used to having their desired image drive their actions; used to appearing the "bad boys" for fun and profit. Now they were meeting guys who's image was based soley upon their actions. Not that they could really give a ***** about either. The "tough guy" Stones had no idea what to do.

I think this was covered, at least partially, in the movie "Monterey Pop".

That one dude in the video above was the inspiration for those GEICO caveman commercials.

I dunno Higgy, after watching Gangland on the big H it seems gangs, HA included, are ALL about image.

The 'tough guy' attitude always gives me a chuckle because everyone knows there is always somebody out there who can kick your ass w/ one hand tied behind his back. To me this means the HA clowns are every bit the performance artists that rock bands are.
