Still, I think the DoE should be abolished. Nothing sickens me more than sending tax money to the federal government, and then having it trickle through umpteen layers of bureacracy (each taking a cut to pay their salaries) and putting requirements on how my children can be education--of course inline with their political agenda. Then, it gets handed over to the state, where it trickles through umpteen layers of bureacracy (each taking a cut to pay their salaries) and putting requirements on how my children can be education--of course inline with their political agenda. Then it gets handed over to the local school district, where it trickles through umpteen layers of bureacracy (each taking a cut to pay their salaries) and putting requirements on how my children can be education--of course inline with their political agenda. I say we get rid of the top two groups of education bureacracy--state and federal. Fund schools ONLY by property taxes. Make the school districts beholden ONLY to the people who fund them, not politicians in Washington, not politicians in the State Capitols (or Chicago in the case of a governor who doesn't travel to the state capitol). Also, it would make education MUCH cheaper, as money for education wouldn't have to fund three separate bureaucracies (and bureacrats ain't cheap). |
