![]() ![]() Wow, Todd. Never in a million years did I think you'd sell unless you were going to go up in class. I'll miss seeing you out at Streets. Are you still planning to show up once in a while? |

Holy crap! Todd, I don't think we've met, but I've seen your car at TRE many times, as well as here on the boards.
Bummer.

well, reality can be a b*tch sometimes.
I've had a good run, but the $10K tranny rebuild was the end of the road budget-wise. I could have gone cheaper but it would have been lingering death. You can do the track pretty cheaply if you have some self-control and a willingness to "go halfway." I have neither ![]() The other thing is that my son is 11, and he isn't getting any younger. The next 7 years are going to be critical so I need to be a parent first. I need to focus on those hobbies that I can do with him. At the track he is a bored spectator. In the surf, on a bicycle, shooting pictures and making movies, he's a participant. I'll likely still be hanging around POC though and may still do some instructing. I have some video to cut, and want to do a few more. Hell, I can even afford to buy more gear if I'm not spending $1K+ each race weekend. The other thing is that I really need to be working on my "art" (music, photos, writing). There's only so much time and money in the world. I'll get back on the track a few years down the road. After you guys get enough seat time to beat my class records ![]() |

Sell the $10K tranny and clear 8k and revert it back to a daily driver. (I'm stunned by $10K tranny rebuid, btw)
btw2, taking apart/rebuilding gear boxes and such is great for kids.

What did they put in that tranny?? That's exactly what I paid for my SC. (And my 996).
That's a head-scratcher. A set of custom-ratio gears for a 915 is only a couple grand, + some other guy is always selling race equipment at a loss.

$10k for a tranny rebuild?! Either times have really changed since my rebuild, or you had platinum syncrhos installed...?

I understand, I really do...it's just that the time comes to move on...trust me, there IS life after Porsche ownership. Oh, there will be many times you really miss the car, no doubt. But life does go on...and today? When I see somebody driving a new waterpumper Porsche? I just kind of chuckle...to each his own.

it's a serious tranny rebuild by Wevo with custom trans cooler and a lot of tweaks and detail work. $4K of that is Wevo parts, and the workmanship is amazing.
If I did my own work I could afford the money required to race...but that would eat up even more of my time. Plus I don't have the garage, tools, or know-how. Or patience. I was pondering trying to trade the car for a stock 911 + cash. That might happen with the right person. But easier to sell it outright. Last edited by nostatic; 03-06-2008 at 08:17 PM.. |

Start with a large one. I swear that some of the POC guys either bust 7 figures or have huge trust funds. I know guys who do it on a reasonable budget but they are DIY types or own garages. Checkbook drivers like me need some serious bank to run w2w...and I hit my limit.
I still would like to have a flat 6 though. Reverting the car is a non-starter now that it has a welded full cage in it. Point of no return was probably when I went to f/g. The good thing is my last event was Infineon where I won my class on both Saturday and Sunday. And the Sunday race I passed in turn 10 of the last lap to pull off the win. The highlight though was winning at Laguna Seca, beating a 6 car class field. So the memories are sweet. Then there was the accident at Infineon that almost killed one of our guys, and another one at Vegas this last event where a guy hit some oil and was a passenger, slamming the wall. I dodged one bullet on the Duc. I figure I went three clean seasons...that's enough for now. |

I understand, Todd. Absolutely.
Paul, you come across as a snob when you say you chuckle when you see a guy drive a waterpumper. Wth was that all about? Yes, btw. To each his own, as you said. |

Hat's off. Well said and well done Todd. You can drive the Hippo anytime you need a fix.

The only way I'd ever do the club racing thing now is if I found myself really rich and could do it w/ little or no extra time working for the funds and buy a car that is ready to rumble out of the gate, like a new GT-3. No build-your-own or upgrade fever schit for me, life is too short. The $$ you have in that car buys a perfect 996 GT-3 track-prepped + about $10Gs worth of fuel. But serious fun was had, so it's not all loss. ![]()

Because they're so darned silly looking! I mean, they're basically Ford Contours that look like they're trying to go fast.
