REQ to Aviation Professionals

Request to aviation professionals: Industry people, Pilots, A&Ps, etc.

It has been suggested to me that Pelican members in the aviation community may be a good source of networking for this issue.

I own Performance Aeromotive, an aircraft component repair facility.
Performance is FAA licensed and registered as a government supplier.

In January, I lost my largest customer when they decided that they want to try and handle all their repairs in-house. This customer made up 60% of my business.

I need to quickly replace that lost workload, or lose my business.

I know we have a few pilots and mechanics here.
If you know your company sends out any subcontract work, or if you can PM me with contact info for people in your company, I would greatly appreciate it!

The component types that my shop currently handles are hydraulic pumps, valves, actuators, electromechanical actuators, some avionics, lighting, support components, etc.

And my FAA license allows me to add new capabilities as customer demand dictates.

Get on Linkedin (http://www.linkedin.com/) and network with everyone.

Networking may help here. I have helped 3 pilots get jobs in the last couple of days. Once you get some experience, its who you know rather than what you know. Connections open doors in this world, and many jobs never get advertised, so get around and see whats going on.

If you want to look at the general aviation market, go to www.barnstormers.com

I can tell you a part that we need made and approved IMMEDIATELY. The main fuel valve on our antique airplanes is no longer available. We need a replacement fuel valve and many have done a 337 using a commercially available ball valve, but field approvals are hit and miss. If you could get something like this going with paperwork they would sell like hot cakes.

I doubt that the aircraft that I occasionally work on have any of the components that you are set up to work on, but I glanced at your website and see you do or have done work on F-16 components. I have a friend who works for and is in the 180th ANG in Toledo Ohio (I am not real sure of his position there, but he is rather high up). I think they operate about 12 or so F-16's. I don't really know how much they do in house there or how govt contracts play out, but if you think it is something that might help you out, I can get you his contact info.

I have a very good contact inside Aeronca aircraft and they are making lots of airplane stuff. Not sure if you could get some contract with with them doing actuators or such but let me know...

My contacts with Boeing and the old McDonnell Douglas are all in the flight department so no help there.

we are just an uber snootty private airport, with various stearmans, yaks, beavers, pilatius etc. buzzing around aimlessly burning fuel for $100 omelettes.

but..............a friend of mine was on the u.s. border patrol and recently retired as a helo/blackhawk pilot. he stated they are running those birds into the ground since 9/11 buzzing the border from texas to san dago. lots of flight time on them with obvious maint. issues. could be something to poke your nose into as far as repair and overhaul. hope that helps.

Thanks for the input so far!

Joe - You know NOTHING with the FAA is IMMEDIATE. But I love tinkering, and love challenges. I certainly would not mind looking at the fuel valve and researching the PMA route for making them. I'll check into Linkedin.

Tim and Joe - I'll certainly take any contact info you can offer!

Charles - We used to repair some exterior lighting for the Blackhawks. I'll look for info on the Border Patrol's flight ops.

I will try to give my friend a call tonight. What F16 components are you currently set up for?
