Nice Score Type 454 Oscilloscope
 

Warren would have been proud of this one. My company was cleaning up our office for a move to a new building, and this was in the pile of stuff to be pitched.

I just found the manual for it online this morning...and it appears to be in working order.

Every engineering geek should have an oscilloscope! :)

Souk, let me go snap a quick photo...

Those are darned good scopes. I used one for years when I worked on aircraft (Air Force technician). It was the easiest to use and most portable scope at the time. The others we used in the shop were tube and had big dollies we pulled them around on. You could drag this one right out to the airplane.

Stoney, that's funny you say portable :) The manual actually states very proudly how portable it is... Times have changed. I used one at one of my old jobs that was not much bigger than my HP calculator, and it could even log the test LOL!

I love old test equipment. Now I need a mini wind tunnel like the on my college fluids lab had. :)

Reminds me that I need to go next door and fire up the old Kenwood 440AT ham radio. Have not gotten on the air in a while and miss it at times.

You are right, Warren would be proud. Old test gear like that soldier on forever and can do things that the new guys could not imagine.

Was on Craigs List recently and picked up a vacuum tube tester and some old tubes. Will need them someday... or someone else will, so glad it was not thrown away.

Yep, the old stuff just keeps going and going. I love the over engineering in some of the stuff. You just don't get the kind of solid build quality in the new plastic stuff these days.

Stoney, my father in law was a Marine aircraft mechanic. When I came home with the thing, I proudly brought it into the house to show the wife and kids my new toy. Kids showed no hint of interest, and the wifey said, "the funny thing is that the only person who'll appreciate that thing as much as you will be dad." Her grandfather was an engineer also, and when he passed, the family when to clean out his basement. The stuff in there was amazing...esp. since he was experimenting and tinkering all the while he was fighting his cancer.

LOL...That was the 70's...we didn't even have portable computers then. Mainframes and punched cards were futuristic to most folks...and the stuff I worked on still had glass tubes. We were starting to put simple computers in our equipment...but they were all discrete components. One or two flip-flops to a circuit card (there were no IC Chips)...not hundreds or even thousands on a chip.

And my '74 911 was still considered an expensive and desirable modern auto...especially if you added an 8-track deck.

Nice call on the clock. I have a bunch of old push cart scopes lying around inherited at the lab that would appreciate being used for something.

Coolest thing that I have probably done with a scope is getting a picture of Maxwell on a CRT.

Remember the old Heathkits? Sure miss them at times. There are still some un-built kits on Ebay...

Just about everything on this thread is part of my inheritence from my dear 'ol grandpa, He's been a HAM radio guy since...well i don't know. a long time.. he was also a TV repairman with an ultimate set of tool :D

But seriously he was into electrical engineering, resurrected all the old tube amps I've rescued over the years etc. SOOOO he's got all this stuff all hooked up in his basement, as a kid I'd go down there and think he was developing some new amplifier, TV or time machine...who knew? All I gotta say it's inspiring to see other's enjoy this gear and are keeping it from the dumpsters...Good on yah man!
As part of my contribution, I promise to keep all the gear functional and at least TRY to learn how to use it:D
