Ok - so far so good. We went downstairs where they prepped him for sugery around 11am. The surgery actually started at 1pm - a few minutes ago. They will call us every couple of hours to give us a status. The surgery should take about 4 hours - the longest 4 hours of my life, and Apu's as well, I am sure...
Word cannot describe the grattitude I have for your prayers, thoguhts, and support. Hard for me to hold back the tears... -Zoltan |

My father in law just had "off pump" bypass last year. He's doing fantastically. You are a fine son. I'm sure your dad is so proud of you. I'll keep you both in my thoughts today. |
Good to hear he (and you) are hanging tough. Here's hoping for many more years! All the best!

continued prayers Z

Update - almost half way through the surgery - so far everything is fine. The doctor already finished one artery.
The doctor has decided to do all four, as in quadruple bypass surgery. I take that as a good sign for two reasons - W 1 if Apu's condition was weak, they would just top after two. 2 Less blockage means more bloodflow through the heart - lowers complications. Thanks for all your support - it helps me greatly to post up here -the anxiety dissipates more with more folks "in the loop.l -Zoltan |

Been thinking of you all day now. I'm glad it is going so well and that we all are here for you. Keep us posted and best of luck to your Dad.

Good news indeed! I'll keep praying for your dad. I know this has to be stressing your family out, but it has to be comforting to your dad to have all of you there.

Good to hear about the smooth sailing up to now!

well with new (refurbished) oil-lines..Apu's engine will run more smoothly, and he will discover that he has more torque as well. Grannie will be slapping his hands before long.

Great update! Apu went through the surgery - surprisingly well - he has been in recovery for an hour now - surgery ended at 5pm. His vitals are great. He was able to move all his limbs - which means no stroke, and the chances of stroke in the near future are minimized. He already has urineated - again another good sign.
They will take him off the air tube next - not sure when - probably tonight or in the am. The nurse caring for him, who is the surgeons wife, is very surprised at how well Apu is doing - it isn't typical. I'm exhausted, but relieved that we are over a couple of hurdles already. -Zoltan |
