The heart is the theme, not the Grinch.

Who's to say? How about "Ted". Doug, if you use that "open mind" you spoke of earlier you would have noticed one reference in this thread that "Ted" didn't like anti-abortion groups using his movies for their causes.

Why do you need to reject Geisel's wife's (of 30+ years!) opinion too for your view to be valid? Maybe you don't like her because she supports Planned Parenthood? Check this out: http://jameshartlinereport.blogspot.com/2008/03/christian-pro-lifers-help-planned.html

However, it was not Seuss’s intent for the meaning of his stories to be associated with these causes. In the case of Horton and the anti-abortion lobby, the conflict began when Dr. Seuss (aka Mr. Theodore Geisel) threatened to sue a pro-life group unless they took the slogan off their stationery (they did, but the line is still used today by groups in both the U.S. and abroad).

The above reference is from a quick Google search, but perhaps there is more to be found for an open and inquisitive mind?

Might I assume that your open mind already knew that Geisel did in fact make "Horton" to express his personal pro-life opinion? If so, enlighten me with a reference and I will offer my sincerest apologies. :)

Best,

Kurt

Well, I love the story - it's one of my favorites to read to my son and he enjoys it as well.

We took him to it over the weekend and he's been pretending to be the mayor ever since.

My wife and I are both Jojo.

I enjoyed the movie quite a bit and look forward to it coming out on DVD.

Huh? Did you intend for one of your sentences to be in green? :D

IMO, the tales should be taken on face value and enjoyed as such. I have very nice memories of Suess stories and still enjoy them today . . . as they are.

For my Daughter I'll also let them keep their intended, IMHO, unadulterated innocence as well.

Best,

Kurt

You have to look for his drawing of Asians. He was pretty brutal during WW2.

I think he is/was Jewish and he was against predijuce but he did have some kind of problem with asians

His wife sounds like a real charmer. Perhaps if we were in his shoes we would understand differently. Thats all I'm saying.

not only that but he was a communist and a vegitarian and some say that his breath smelt of elderberries...

Gogar 03-20-2008 07:19 PM

Said the Cat in the Hat to the fish in the bowl: "They say Dr Seuss was a communist mole. His fine reputation they're trying to pinch - what monster would do this could it be the Grinch?"

What book are you talking about, and care to share what you're getting at?

bivenator 03-21-2008 08:29 AM

I saw the movie last nite with my 4 y/o. I must say that I probably would have enjoyed the movie more had I not read this thread politicizing Dr Seuss. The whole time I kept wondering what barack or john would say.

Would feigning ignorance be considered lying?

"Thick" is not the right word. "Obscure" I'd probably own.

Now if most everyone else who read my posts understood what I meant .......

Think about what I wrote for a little while. Got to get back to work.

Innuendo adds nothing to the conversion and I'm not good at guessing games, you're beginning to resemble my wife.

If you don't understand what I've written, just ask.

Is she 5' 1" , 145 BRN/BRN with an A cup???:D

I understood perfectly what you wrote in both quotes. I'm surprised that you've never heard the term "the good book" in reference to the bible. If you have, then this:

would be feigning ignorance. I view feigning ignorance as lying. A little white one of course.

Never mind that, what's with the hypocrisy question?
