Car died and I gave it way right there on the side of the road.

Yep, but not a Porsche. :D The '90 Caddy I inherited when my mother passed away 5 years ago made for a good grocery getter and parking lot car. I learned a huge amount about the era's *technology* replacing injectors and other similar items a lot like my Carrera system. But, alas, a major on board computer failure that stranded my wife left me with an interesting choice.

So, when the hook arrived, I told him to take it away. You should have seen the look on this cat's face. Dispatched from AAA, I told him he had to do what I wanted and that was to make the car disappear from my life. After a radio consultation with his office, he agreed and someone just now picked up the title.

What a great feeling it is to off a car right there in the street. A new one for me.

A guy I used to work with had his old beater car die along the side of the road. He had the title in the glove box, so he simply signed off as seller, stuck it under the windshield wiper, and walked away.

He also felt pretty good about it.

I know a guy that had a little different experience. ;)

His VW bus caught fire in the middle of an intersection.
He jumped out and started beating it with a baseball bat!

He lost his car...and went to jail.

My '95 Dodge Dakota's engine blew with only 130K miles on it, about 70 miles from home. I hobbled into a gas station with a shop and sold it to the mechanic for 500 bucks, and took BART home.

The '83 Westy became my daily driver for the next year and was much more reliable.

LOL! There is a certain freedom in having a car you don't care about. :D

very cathartic act. but remember, you're still liable if somebody runs over a bunch of nuns in that thing.

next time take it to the junk yard, they'll give you fifty bucks for it. and maybe even let you watch them crush it.

driving down I-5 in a '86 5.0 mustang convert, over heated on me for the last time...after 3 stops buying parts and having them delivered to me at rest stops (Fan belt then a fan clutch), then....UGH! ...I had HAD IT!

I pulled over in a "golden arches" and called the GF (it was her car I had given her a month earlier) while waiting for her..I walked over to a truck stop and said 1st $300 takes it!

man I got some weird a$$ looks... but I did get a kick watching the announcement spread thru the place..... finally in 10 min I had a group asking question...told them my story and as the GF rolled up tossed the dude the keys, signed over the title and wayved buh bye......

nothing against fords or stangs...but i was done!!

Actually what was funny was months later the same stinking car was towed into our body shop and impounded!!!

That car had bad mojo!!

My 1990 Geo Tracker is getting close to being put out to pasture, I should find the title and be ready.

We just had a terrible snow/ice fall in Michigan, the old girl was doing great with the 4WD while FWD and RWD cars were sliding all over the place (when they were able to move at all) and going down hills backwards.

118,000 miles, running on three of four cylinders and rusting out like crazy. I'm going to miss her when she's gone.

Scrap iron has gone up with the rest of the commodities. One of my customers had a dinosaur GM car that had the trans go out, wasn't worth fixing. She said they gave her $240 for it.

Mike Tyson once gave away a Bentley to two cops in NYC.
They had to give it back.
A buddy once swapped me a 1980 Thunderbird for a pair of lace rollerblades.

Traded in a 2004 745i felt like I gave it away...........

Got a call to tow a Honda once. Towed the owners to the bus station. Gave them % bucks and they gave me the title. Towed it home and called a junk guy. He picked it up and gave me 100. Not bad deal.

I guess you missed the point. It won't run. And, I filed my seller's report online last night based on the ID of the guy that I signed the pink off to. He had to fill out the top portion of the pink which the seller keeps here in CA.

Looked funny out in front when I picked up the paper this morning. Just this big oil patch where the boat used to sit. My wife even got a warning at her work about the oil. They told her to bring a drip pan to the parking lot. Now, how the hell was that gong to work? I guess she's supposed to put the pan in the best parking space and no one else will park there? Yea, right.

The b!tch of the whole mess is yesterday morning I gave that tank a real nice bath and a quick detail. So it responds by freaking dying in the middle of an intersection and I have to go push it out of the way while waiting for the hook. Hasta la vista to the "growler."

My honda had all it's brake and fuel lines rust out a few days ago. What a PITA and it's still not right. Funny thing the bay I work out of on base is right next to a small demolitions range where they sometimes blast cars for 'training purposes'. Several times I was quite tempted to push it over there. It would be a financial loss but it would be satisfying to see that thing get blown straight to hell.

I guess hawaii has a real bad problem with abandoned cars. If you go down some backstreets the roads are lined with em.

There were three things that I found impressive about Hawaii. The sunrises, the sunsets and number of abandoned cars on the side of the road.

I had a ford once that liked to die on the side of the road, unfortunately it was a ford so I couldn't give it away ;)
