You guys might snicker at this, but I bought a Yamaha FZ1 (03). The price of diesel pissed me off, and I decided to buy a bike to ride when I didn't have to haul or tow something. The last bike I had years ago was a two cylinder british bike I rode thousands of miles & loved it. I'm happy with this one. It's comfortable, smooth, not too big, I can take it on longer rides if I want, gas mileage is decent, and they are supposed to be super dependable. It's definitely not like my old bike was. The one thing that is a bit of a negative is the amount of power it has. I'm not going to be riding it too fast, but it can be scary fast. Maybe most bikes are like that now days. Since I usually ride it on curvy backcountry roads without much traffic, it's a bunch of fun.

Nope. they are not legal. they are overseas, but because of emissions they are not in the states. I looked at them last summer, Aprillia was working on making them truly legal for the states and that may have changed for 08, but I don't think so. WHen they are purchased they are supposed to be for off road use only. Some Dealers will slip the paperwork to DMV with the rest of their other bike sales, Some will tell you it's completely up to you to try to get it registered and won't touch it with a ten foot pole.

I love the bike, but it is not reliable. http://www.apriliaforum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=50

It is no problem getting them plated and legal. I had my Husaberg Supermoto street legal and plated in one ten minute visit to the Secretary of State.

The Peoples Republic of California is probably different but you wouldn't have any problems Tim.

They are not "unreliable" considering what they are (race bikes), they are high strung and require much more P/M than a normal road bike. For instance their sumps are tiny so the oil needs more frequent changes etc.... Treat it like you did your MX bikes and you'll get the same results.

Agreed. But it is still not really a street legal bike. I looked at buying this bike last summer and the dealer told me I should wait until Aprilla ironed out some reliability issues. I appreciated that especially since they had a couple of them sitting on the floor for sale. Also, out here in california where we can ride twelve months a year, It would become a real hassle to own that bike for me. I don't want to work on it, I wanna ride it.

I love your Husaberg supermoto.

The FZ1 is a great bike. Handles nice and has the motor out of a previous generation R1. It should be super reliable, be low maintence and It can get it on the back roads really well.
