Sure, I've got tons of them. Been on the bleeding edge of this stuff for the past 12 years or so.

not sure you can afford me though. My days of pro bono work are behind me...

I'm not buying your new motorcycle if that's what you mean.

it would be interesting to compare notes on edges. I created this infrastructure from scratch in a previous life. the flash presents about 50% of the program in detail. The real beauty was 3 months out you could connect sales directly to media type, message(s), demographic, "clickstream" psychographic and lead nurturing profile, and then continually refine the client media buy/message to maximize ROI.

Biggest mistake of my life was not taking it in-house to "Cisco" and others. So for now, it's all about cool clothes and great adventures.

I respect your decision but in all honesty I grew up on Road Runner, Buggs Bunny, (all the looney tunes cartoons for that matter) Tom and Jerry, the Flintstones, and the Jetsons I turned out just fine with no issues and the ability to discern fantasy from reality.

Those cartoons make Spongebob look like a nice little sea urchin.

But the bottom line is your a great parent that cares about what your kid watches on TV and you take an active roll in it, that speaks volumes about you as a person. Kudo's to you!!

Realize that the corporate/customer management thing and education and entertainment are totally different fish. And if you want to dip into viral waters, then the fish get stranger...

Well thanks. I too grew up on those cartoons. I think the difference is that while Bugs or Road Runner could be violent, they usually weren't crude or disrepectful, at least not that I can recall.

Too much of what passes for humor today amounts to farting in a crowded room, IMHO. Yeah, it's funny but do you REALLY want your kids doing it?

My five year old daughter seems to go through phases, right now she really likes:

Original Scooby Doo and the newer ones
Tom and Jerry
Family Guy (although my wife gets mad at me when we watch that one together)

In the past she has watched:

Dora
Deigo
Miss Spiders Sonny Patch Friends
Elmo, Sesame Street

We limit both our kids to two 30 minute episodes a day. My 2 year old pretty much doesn't like wathcing tv, just some Elmo every once in a while. He'd rather have a little hockey stick, football or any type of ball to play with.

I think I've seen just about every episode of Spongebob these days. I think you are confusing SB with Bart Simpson.

Spongebob's schtick is that he's actually OVERLY nice and respectful to everyone. He's an ultra hard worker who gets upset when there is a holiday, because he can't show up for work. Pretty much the entire premise of the comedy of the show is his "over-the-top" niceness, cheeriness and friendliness to everyone (even to those who don't really like him or take advantage of it).

I think you've got the wrong guy!

Curious George
Little Bear
TMNT
Diego

and few others

Wade is only 5.5 but he also loves dinos and such.

I like your web linked ideas. I read to my son every night at bedtime, it is a ritual. He now reads to me also at night. I think the idea of using a second media to link the books and the story and characters is excellent from both a marketing standpoint and also to get and keep the kids interested in reading. I know my son would love it!

Cheers

Good man!

My almost 4yr old enjoys:
Backyardigans (top quality show with better music than most radio stations)
Jimmy Neutron (MY favorite by far, SO well done i will watch it by myself)
Max & Ruby
He's sorta gotten away from Higglytown which is a bummer, i LOVE that show.

Little Bear was a big favorite for a while as well.

Fireman Bill (or something along those lines; british or aussie show IIRC) was a hit as well.

I personally thought Koala Brothers was fantastic programming too.

The crazy thing about books with my son is there is NO predicting what he's going to like.

I know i tend to gravitate towards books with great illustrations but it's not always the same with him.

Thanks guys, really appreciate your input.

Anyone else have some thoughts on whether links in the books are a good idea or just an odd distraction?

Nope, I got the right guy. I actually think the Simpson's is pretty funny, my wife hates it though.

Sponge Bob just isn't what my wife and I want our kids watching right now. I think the humor in the series is less than how I would want my 5 year old to act. There are plenty of shows on like Little Einsteins which teach kids about classic music, art and beautiful locations around the world.

I'd rather have my son learning about Mozart and the Mona Lisa than watching a yellow Sponge dance around in his underwear under the sea...

Spongebob is mostly about friendship and tolerance, but it is true, it is light on Mozart, the Mona Lisa and the depiction of beautiful locations around the world.

He is, alas, a yellow sponge who lives under the sea. A frivolous waste of time, esp. for a five year old. I can now see why you would forbid any watching of it in your household.

Yeah, and I bet none of the Little Einsteins are named Sandy Cheeks are they?
