I used to be. Here in Oregon it was primarily a legislative lobbying effort...one on the side of "mom and pop" type biz. I found it very effective for holding state legislator's feet to the fire, with NFIB letting me know how my rep voted on issues...

Did they beg you for money all the time?

Nope..just annual dues thing, when I belonged. But then, the NFIB is probably scrambling for money. I mean, Think about how many small biz operations are left, in this age of big box stores? One example? How many small town office supply stores do you see left these days? Not many...if there is a STAPLES within 20 miles or so? Ditto "Home depot" vs. the local lumber yard and hardware store...and yeah, WAL-MART vs. almost anybody...

times change. (edit)...it's all big box and corporate these days. I find this sad, because "main street USA" is gone...

I thought they were just a front for a health insurance company.

I was a member for about 10 years, but every time they were fighting something they would call and ask for money. Also they had a paid legal service that they kept begging for money.
