rear triangle tight? What are you used to Sammy, 70's touring bikes? ;)

That is "semi-relaxed" road geometry all the way. Wheelbase is a tad over 104cm, chainstays 42.5cm. 73.5 ht angle, 72.5 st angle.

Crit bikes in my size would be under 100cm wheelbase.

It's a cyclocross frame, so it does have a bit shorter wheelbase. I think the photo may be slightly distorted as well, as it's not as bad as it looks. Twitchy no, but it does turn pretty quick. Very comfortable on the hoods, but the drops are to low for long pulls. It's my all rounder bike and handles the bike paths, and dirt roads excellent. It will see a century or two, but most of my time is in the dirt on my other bikes.

LOL, it's been a while. A long while. Late 70's is exactly right. Worked at a place called fullerton bike shop while in college and we had a pretty good pro section.
double-butted Reynolds 531 and columbus tubing was the hot set up, no aluminum to speak of. full campy was a must but that was before SR or shimano came out with their high end components.

the road bike I had back then was a paramount that had geometry similar to that one in the picture and it was twitchy IMO on long distance (like centurions). It made me work too hard. I figured it was only a sprint bike. It's interesting that now days people consider that to be semi-relaxed. Do people still ride to san Diego once a month and take the train back? ;)
The hills through pendelton separate the masochists from the rest. I hated that stretch.

on Sundays we'd open the shop at noon so I'd ride to the top of anaheim hills up knoll ranch road, then to featherly park on the river trail, then turn around and take it to Huntington beach, then to fullerton to open the shop.

I also had a track bike I rode at the encino velodrome that was so tight you had to deflate the rear tire to remove the wheel from the bike, even with short drop-outs.
If I sneezed riding that thing I ended up in the cheap seats or upside down.

One thing that cracks me up is the racing gear people wear. I wore it back then and people laughed, but at least I was actually racing or training for a race. Nowadays everyone and his dog wears full racing uniforms even if they have never ridden more than 5 miles at a time and never off the bike trail.
And what's up with the yellow jerseys? You just didn't dare do that back then. If you did you ended up with an air pump in your spokes.
Now they're everywhere.

I don't wear yellow jerseys, but do have a bright orange Speedgoat jersey, and will wear anything that is BRIGHT. If you aren't seen, you'll get hit.

I guess poseurdom knows no boundaries. I saw a guy out riding yesterday wearing a "Discovery Team" jersey (and it was pretty obvious he wasn't on the team). Wanted to give his rear wheel quick release a little flick as I went by. Damn poseurs. Personally I'd never wear a team jersey. I like the really loud, obnoxious ones that are just fun and kinda' hilarious. I ride to have fun and get a good workout - not to pretend I'm an Olympian (I know I'm not). Cycling has the best clothes of any sport. It's an excuse to dress up as a total clown in public and have people think it's cool. It's great! Here's my latest fave (wore it yesterday):

I mainly wear "team" apparel, although I have not raced in 7 years... I have to many friends and contacts still in the scene that it's how I get cheap gear... Some real close friends own a bike shop in Boulder, So I wear the shop gear the most.

Even on the dirt, I can't stand anything but nice Bibs and a real jersey.

Did you mean that riding horses is even more dangerous than riding bicycles?
If so, damn straight! Nice bikes, boys.

Late this afternoon I decided to ride my bike to the bank, stop for a coffee, then hit the grocery store for a few things. About 4 or 5 miles total on fairly busy city streets. No less than 3 close calls. One guy pulling out of a parking spot (saw him), another almost running a red light (saw him, would have plowed into the car that passed me on the left as I had the brakes covered), and another yahoo on a cell phone that felt they needed to turn right really slowly.

I swear, a motorcycle is less dangerous. At least there I've got full gear and hp to get the hell out of the way...but the exercise felt good at the end of a stressful day.

You sure about that?;)

LOL, good discussion.
The only jerseys I ever wore were team paramount and I had to join the team to get them.
People looked at me like i was some sort of pervert or flasher when I wore my riding shorts so most of the time I wore touring shorts.

Now you can see someone standing in line at McDonalds wearing those tight shorts and they think nothing of it.

Very nice Nostatic,

I've always wanted a Salsa, from way back in my high school days (more than a decade). Good work.
