Those walls could certainly use more cellulose. I recently insulated a 4000+ square foot home with dense pack cellulose and the house is ridiculously tight. In the near future, a few thousand SF of porcelain and stone will be laid. Papa wants a new tile saw. ;)

Look forward to seeing more of your project.

Very nice!

Except for the tile..... J/K:p Great job!

Ive installed Ikea cabinets on a few jobs, including my own kitchen. Im just real happy that they finally switched over to standard American dimensions instead of the old Euro sizes. They where a b!tch to match up with our stuff when they first came out.

911Rob 04-01-2008 09:36 PM

Way to go Trek!
What was the final budget for that job?

Thanks!

I don't know what it all cost in the end.
Sort of a strange project.

I pecked away at it over two-three months between my regular jobs.
It's in an empty house. An estate.

Time and materials.
I did a lot of other unrelated projects at the house as well.

The tile is normally $11 a square foot.
I bought it from someone at $2.

I hauled nine trailer loads of debris to the dump as well at 2000+ pounds each

KT

911Rob 04-01-2008 09:53 PM

Sweet, thanks.

VINMAN 04-01-2008 10:05 PM

Trek, just out of curiosity, how much is the disposal fee in your area?

Most of the loads were around $60-70.

It was $29 a ton, I believe.
The rates just went up, however.

( transfer station )

VINMAN 04-01-2008 10:23 PM

Wow! Our county dump here charges $103 a ton for construction debris.

rammstein 04-01-2008 11:27 PM

Obviously a job well done... but I did kinda dig the booth. Wish you could have rehabbed it and kept it.

Hugh R 04-01-2008 11:38 PM

Nicely done!

trekkor 04-01-2008 11:46 PM

Thanks,

I thought some of you may enjoy seeing the shots.

I'm going to take pictures of the 6 week long marble bath job I'm currently on.

Wow! Great work there!

Jim Richards 04-02-2008 04:38 AM

Nice improvement to that kitchen. :)

Porsche-O-Phile 04-02-2008 06:54 AM

Lots of work there! Nice overall.

One minor thing though - why on earth did you go with white as a color for the cabinets? WAY too much white, IMHO (natural wood would have looked very nice, especially next to that natural-looking stone tile, but just my opinion). But a vast improvement overall. Nice job!

trekkor 04-02-2008 08:08 AM

The purpose of this project was to create an overall appeal in today's poor real estate market.
The previous kitchen needed *everything*.
This kitchen needs a refridgerator.

The house is in escrow now.

If it were my home, I agree, maybe too much white.

KT

onewhippedpuppy 04-02-2008 08:37 AM

Looked at a newer house recently Jeff? Everything is WHITE. As a former remodeler and cabinet builder, it makes me sick. There's few things more attractive than stained hardwood in a home. I can't imagine why people like it, but they do. Sounds like that was KT's top priority, and I think he was right.

I'm on a white elimination mission in my house. It currently has white raised panel doors, and white woodwork in the master bedroom. That will all be eliminated and replaced with wood. I've installed a few raised panel oak doors, the difference is night and day.

cgarr 04-02-2008 08:54 AM

No brass pole?

trekkor 04-02-2008 08:55 AM

The cool thing about Ikea, is that you can buy door whenever you please.
They have about thirty styles to choose from.

I'd install them again.

So if someone really needed to have less white, for about $1,000 they could have solid wood doors with various integrated glass options if they wanted.

The key to remodeling with the intent to sell, is being able to appeal to 80-90% of the buyers.
Sometimes you have to leave your personal preferences in the truck ;)

Many people appreciate simple and bland homes. No amazing colors.
It allows TOTAL freedom to decorate and re-decorate with all of their own colorful accessories.

I've already got a replacement 2.7 motor in my shed.

Good eye!

The floors had been covered with shag carpet for 30-40 years.
They need re-finishing.

The new owners will need to make that call.

Also, the entire house interior, except for the kitchen is in tinted 'Cover Stain' primer.
Ready for whatever color they want.

I know... I hated the idea of painting over wood, but they were kinda ugly. I wanted to strip them and stain them dark, but the kitchen was already too dark.
