Anyone "collect" domain names?

For some reason I started buying domain names years ago. Not a lot of them, just picking 'em up here and there whenever I come across what I think is a "good" or interesting name. I've let many of them expire, but now have about 19.

I'm not a squatter looking to make money and I'm not actually sure what drives me to buy the domains.

My "collection" includes, among others, nerdpoop.com, wetcloud.com, zoloux.com, zeferos.com, vtqp.com and pcequity.com.

I did get my last name, starnes.com in the 90s and am grateful for that.

Anyone else have this odd affinity?

Best,

Kurt

I have picked up a few but mostly are aviation related. Not a bad thing to hang onto.

A few that a friend wanted for her business but she didn't register for a few years, so I got 'em for a while, she didn't even notice so I let it lapse. I also grabbed itsjustcrap.com with her a while back...

Toyota does the same thing. They got the Oldsmobile name for $5,000.00 because GM forgot to renew it after the copyright expired in 2006. So now we will be having Toyota made Oldsmobiles in the not too distant future.

Best,

Kurt

Register companies, especially GoDaddy love people to register names (lots of them) and park them there.
GoDaddy then provides a default page and sells ads on it!
They actually receive a fair amount of their revenue doing this.

Kurt, you should ask GoDaddy to share some of that $$ with you!

I use GoDaddy and don't mind them making some money on the parked domain pages.

I guess I could blame them for feeding my weird semi-obsession, but wouldn't that be denial? :)

They are one of the cheaper places for web services, IMO, and I am happy with them overall.

Best,

Kurt

All of these are legitimate companies that didn't spend quite enough time considering how their online names might appear ... and be misread.

These are not made up. Check them out yourself!
