Finding out who's in jail?
Is there a way to find out if someone is in jail or has been jailed?
heard our production broker for India mfg. was recently jailed. Would like to find out. |
In the U.S.? Normally the sheriff's office will tell you who's in custody and what the charges are. A lot of counties actually post this online more-or-less "real time" with mug shots.
A good friend of mine who lives in Key West, FL recently had an ex-g/f of his get arrested for grand larceny (heh, heh, heh. It was a bitter breakup and there was a lot of gloating going on). Anyway, I was able to go on Monroe County Sheriff's office web site and find her mug shot, which I e-mailed to him along with the link. I think he sent it to everyone he knew and all her friends/family. Haha! Anyway, that's the deal in the U.S. (YMMV, some states/counties might not do this). Far as India? No flippin' idea. |
I remember a site where you could search folks on parole.

Probably no suprise I know almost everybody on my county's site. Jim |
I was hoping for an easy web search or a place I could call. :(
My only guess is that she would be in a Westchester County, NY jail. |
There is no good commercially available database that tracks arrests. A database called Accurint, used by lawyers and PIs has some data. Arrest data is public information, so it is available. You just have no central location to look for it at. You need to call the local sheriff/PD/court clerk's office in the county where the arrest took place. Most have public access computer terminals available to search past arrests and booking data on.

Try this out. You can search arrest records. |
I think there are a lot of different search companies that can find that info, for around $50 or so.
Places like www.ussearch.com |
In college, I worked in a jail for a year. Every Sat/Sun morning starting about 4:00 am, the phone rang off the hook of wives looking for overdue husbands. Give them a call, they will tell you. It's a public record.

Is it a federal immigration matter maybe? May be in a fed lock up?
