Need a Value ona 59 VW Bus?

This comes up for auction on the morrow. Description says no rust, running motor removed from vehicle. Other pics show to be clean for its age. What is its value? Anybody interested?

HUH???? So what kind O money would ya bid on this VW?

911boost 04-04-2008 01:12 PM

Tabs, alot of that is going to depend on how complete the interior is. Are all the little small parts there, all rows of the seats, etc.

Bill

Yes all the seats are there.

The early VWs have such clean lines.. They really are beautiful machines..

49 years from now - if even one exists - will anyone find a E-250 van attractive beyond it's scrap value?

turbo6bar 04-04-2008 01:39 PM

Oh, wow. I wish I had the time and space. I could see driving this after upgrading to a VW TDI engine and stronger brakes. Killer work van.

rammstein 04-04-2008 01:43 PM

With some elbow grease, that will be a gorgeous ride.

I'd put a WRX engine in there... Wheeeeeeeeeee!

Well, here's a nice one with faked logos and patina for £16000 I'd say that would be the uber-limit for this year/color combo, and there's indications that prices are coming back down. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=592093

I sold a similar bus but with some floor rust, no motor, hacked wheel wells and no middle seat for $900, and it took a couple months to sell. The middle seat alone in this one would probably fetch you $500 or so. Sans motor, and not knowing the rust status, I'd say you have at $3k - $5k you have some flip-room.

This sold with the motor out but as part of the deal for $4600 out the door. I didn't buy it...to many unknowns.

widebody911 04-06-2008 07:24 AM

I think that was a fair price for it, perhaps even high by my standards, but dollars to donuts sez it gets flipped on the samba within the fortnight.

Mo_Gearhead 04-06-2008 07:42 AM

You should have bought it Tabs. Wish it had been closer to me.

This one (fully restored) was listed recently for $65K!

Tabs, I didn't specify, my numbers are based on it after resto.

tabs 04-06-2008 11:34 AM

I realize that thats the value after resto...but what is the resto going to cost...20K or more.

I woulda bought the thing to flip.

My problem was how was I gona get it outa Montana...what lurking problems does the thing have...I didn't get a chanch to talk to the auctioneeer to find out the paticulars. So I had to stay on the sidelines.

Hard-Deck 04-06-2008 05:05 PM

Tabs, keep looking. I have a friend in the PNW with a 1-ton truck who hauls/tows with his business and I'll get you a good deal to tow stuff home for you.
