the coffee thread......

right before christmas someone used my mother in laws credit card to order coffee online....but it got shipped to her instead of the person who stole the card number.
she isn't a big coffee drinker and the company said to just keep it and enjoy instead of returning it so she gave it to us.

now i'm kinda simple when it comes to coffee, but i gotta say...this is the best coffee we have ever tasted, period.

it's munn's world coffee "Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee - 30% blend", not real cheap, the 2 lb bag lasted us about 3 months as we only make large pots on the weekend. they show a 2lb bag at $37 (her card was billed $87 though for one bag.....???), maybe it's market price :D

christian (a quiet boom) had some also and quoted the pulp fiction coffee line, he is a die hard starbucks fan.....

munn's website.....

what are you drinking for coffee?

8 O'Clock at home, we grind every morning. Max House at the restaurant, it sucks.

A friend of mine has a coffee company that roasts and distributes to local gourmet restaurants and specialty coffee shops ala Peets and Starbucks. He thinks this Ethiopian Harrar is as good or better than Jamaican Blue Mountain (which is over-hyped) and I have to agree. You can buy it online at his website:

starbucks is medium good. their close proximty to just about everything is the real advantage. JBM is good stuff.

Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf is my morning standard. For personal blends I've got a bag of authentic Hawaiian Kona (a co-worker brought it back from HI with her recently at my request, it ain't a cheap knock-off). I also like the Ethopian Ygercheffes usually and REALLY like Jamaica Blue Mountain, but it ain't cheap (neither is the Kona, but how often can you get the real deal like that?)

Won't set foot in a Coffee Bean, and will go to a Starbucks only with a gun held to my head. Peets is it for me. Major Dickason is the go-to blend, but I recently tried some Sulawesi-Kalosi that was tasty.

I like a Euro-type strong coffee.

My Formula: I use a 4 cup Melitta cone filter maker. If your coffee maker isn't a cone filter, throw it out. Starbuck's French Roast. #3 Grind (they'll fight you on it but demand #3). I am far too lazy to grind at home anymore. 3 level scoops for 2-3 mugs final product. Beware, it's strong.

I should just buy a fancy expresso machine & be done with it but then I would just drink too much.

Pretty negotiable on coffee - until I go to Florida. Once you try Cuban coffee, about two thimble-fulls is all you need- you will swear off anything else. Right now I'm in Florida and it will take me a couple of weeks being back home to get where I can stand anything else...

Cuban coffee ROCKS!

Ummm. Cuban coffee thimbles. I prefer unsweetened but still yummy. Ditto Turkish & Arabic coffees.

My wife insists on Eight O'clock and I found a real bargain at Amazon.com. You can subscribe, get an automatic discount, and get free scheduled deliveries from Amazon with no minimum purchase and you can cancel anytime. Currently it's less than $6/lb delivered. You can't beat that anywhere... and if you can let me know.

We buy whole bean too. Considering you almost can't find Eight O'clock in California, this is great for us. Good Golly, I love Amazon.com. :)

I enjoy Peet's, but hate paying their price, so if I see the occasional bargain on eBay, I bid on a few pounds of Majoy Dickason.

peppy 04-04-2008 05:07 PM

Thanks TerryH, that is a great price.

I used to drink Blue Mountain back in the 70's when it was still affordable (and pure). Now, a cup 'o CDM or Mello Joy will suit me just fine.;) although we have a local roaster who has some specialty blends we enjoy.

Excellent coffee source out of Chicago: http://www.intelligentsiacoffee.com/

This is where I get my morning fix. Excellent roaster he in Seattle: http://www.zokacoffee.com/

Cafe Vita is good as well: http://www.caffevita.com/

I'm sending a link to Evren...he buys green coffee beans from across the planet, blends and roasts his own. Me? Just in it for the caffeine. We tried to be good hosts...but I could tell the COSTCO purchased beans we ground were...well, just caffeine.

We drink 8-o-clock 100% Columbian. I use a Super-Automatic Expresso Machine at home and in the Office. Great Coffee for the price.

When I was in California, I had friends ship it to me, $8 for the 36 oz bag, 10 bags at a time. Now we can get it locally, in Houston.

What do you pay for it in Houston? The free shipping provided by Amazon is what makes it a deal for us because we can't find Eight O'clock locally.

Funny how the price of gasoline has changed how I shop now. Used to be I'd drive up to 100 miles to save on shipping charges on some things, now it's quite the opposite.

red-beard 04-04-2008 05:45 PM

Small bags, 13 oz ~ 3.99, the large bags 39 oz ~ $10.99

Sometimes cheaper when on sale.
