Indoor Kart Racing
WOW! Waaaaay more fun that I would have expected.
My buddy and I diced it up in a 14 lap race this morning. I wasn't fast, but I was second fastet by .05 seconds ... not too shabby for a first time out. ![]() If you're in LA, you gotta give this a try. It's cheaper than a night at the bar and waaaaaaay more fun. www.mb2raceway.com |

I haven't done this in a while. Time to go again.
Our local PCA autocross group has had our annual awards at a local kart track. Everybody gets a couple priliminary heats. Top six lap times enter the final championship, with a pace kart. Pretty fun to get a bunch af aggresive autocrossers out on track together. |

Columbus, Ohio has one as well. Very nice track...well, atleast it used to be. They are currently relocating and have been down for quite a few months now. But well worth atleast one trip. Carts go well over 45 mph on a slick track. Place is called Speeds.

We had a nice indoor track in Houston that was originally owned by Davy Jones. Now it's owned by guys that can barely keep the engines running

We go on Monday nights sometimes to Skycart in Tukwila. It is an enduro race; 30 minutes. Boy, that is a workout. Lots of fun!

My son actually works at MB2 in Sylmar, he's promised me a free lap or two. I think I'll take him up on it.

There are a couple of these places near where I work. I can go during my lunch break, get a race in, and be back in an hour.
It’s a total blast when there are some slow people on the track. Getting past them hurts your lap times, but can be a lot of fun. I love nailing the last corner before the long straight, and then pulling a classic racing pass by out braking someone into the first corner. Like I said, it kills your lap times (the inside/passing line isn’t a fast line), but it’s something I never get a chance to do anyplace else.

I just went to MB2 this afternoon on the way home from work. As I said above, my son works there and I two free races. Definitely a lot of fun. I tried driving like I did at Willow Springs and it worked out well. But my son who drives is several times a week kicked my ass and lapped me. It was just he and I on the track.
If some Pelicans in LA REALLY want to see who is the best driver, this place will equalize everything, all the carts are the same. Who is actually a better driver, as opposed to faster or better set up car? ![]() ![]()

I went to Dromo One in Orange and completely sucked. I think I was overdriving the cart and carrying too much speed into the corners. I was in the parade group of our race or as some of you like to say I was a rolling chicane.

I can't get out of these places under $50. And I have yet to be at one that doesn't stink - the exhaust of the carts usually hangs around for you to breathe. Other than that, I agree - lots of fun, especially in winter, when there aren't an AX or track events.

There's a newly opened indoor carting place in NJ near Paramus on Rt 17 North: www.v-17.com (Velocity 17).
Electric indoor carts. Amazing torque, and amazing fun! -Z-man.

It does equalize things, that’s for sure. But I think weight is a huge factor. If one person weighs 50 lbs less than the other, that’s a huge difference for these little carts. I think the top lap times are set by some really light people.

We have k1speed near us and the monthly best lap times are held by young kids in the 100-120lb range. I watched a local hot shoe run the track and he could keep the throttle pinned in turns where the bigger guys like me would spin out.
I prefer the electric carts to the gas for indoor events. Lots of fun with a group of guys but as already mentioned it gets pricey. |

There's a place in Northwest Houston. I think it's called Kart 21. It's a blast. The karts are very fast.

I really used to like F1 Race Factory here in Phoenix. The last few times I've gone the karts have been in bad shape and far from equal in performance. My last trip I ran two races... the tires were worn out, the alignment was off, and the seat belts were literally tied onto the cart. Both karts I had were down on power compared to others.
The worst part was that there was one guy who was obviously close friends with the kids operating the place. His kart was significantly faster than all of the others. He lapped me about every 3rd lap!
