Commuting suck when....

...you're on a long stretch of road - in the right lane - with traffic passing you at at least 75 on the left, and you encounter an enormous pot hole the size of a '55 Buick. Your options are:

1) Ride through the pothole and risk vehicle damage or an accident.
2) Move into the bike lane and risk getting your vehicle scratched by some Lance wannabe's custom bend bars or worse yet getting his faux yellow leader's jersey all wrapped up in your axle.
3) Stopping.

I've done all three, neither of which are fun.

Any suggestions?

:D

Drive in the left lane. :D

I was just thinking, on my drive home yesterday, "I hate pothole season"

I lost a tire and bent a rim (my Olds - possibly the worst car I ever owned - not the Porsche or the Volvo) in a CVS parking lot. Got the corporation to pay for the repair.

Sure enough, the pot hole was back yesterday. Glad I had the presence of mind to remember where it was and avoid it.

Where's the humor in that?:)

A "pot hole" is a divot in your stash from where you've scooped it out to refill the bong.

Yup. The simple solution is very often the best. :D

But if I'm in the left lane I don't have a plausible excuse to swerve into the bike lane:D

That is of course a drawback. However you could do a zig-zag maneuver, going back a forth between the left lane and the bike lane. Very popular move! :D

Yes, I've seen this. When performed properly it's mesmerizing in it's beauty.

I use the A button.

That's funny...:).

Q: What word is most commonly heard between a bunch of potheads?
A: Ear

daepp 04-08-2008 07:10 AM

What the hell is pothole season?

kach22i 04-08-2008 07:12 AM

4. Move out of Michigan, potholes are one thing Michigan makes larger than Texas.:D

What's a bike lane?
I should be asking how they are marked in the event I come across one.
Jim

We've got'em all around here Jim...they're usually about 10 ft wide with a white line on the left hand side (and full of cars) :)

You mean the UNCG/Spring Garden passing lanes? :)

KFC911 04-08-2008 09:23 AM

You got it Tim! "Double wide" bike lanes :)

ps: Actually, I mis-read your post...I was really thinking more like Wendover

Tim Walsh 04-08-2008 09:35 AM

On another note, Winston has the worst potholes in all of NC it seems. They're everywhere!

stevepaa 04-08-2008 09:43 AM

well ,we don't have potholes here like you guys. I remember driving through Brooklyn years ago and there was a pot hole in the street about 50 yards up. How did I know 50 yards up?

Some kind person had put a metal garbage can in it and you could just see the top 1 foot of the carbage can.

My daughter hit a "pothole" on a CA higway and her driver side aribag went off. No damge to tire or wheel.

Just got my benz back after a run in with a NJ pothole, for those here in the tri-state when you're going from the Lincoln Tunnel to the NJ Tpke South, just about 1/2 mile from the toll is a gigantic hole in the left lane...Hit it saturday doing about 60mph, 4 people in the car.

Made it home, barely. All 4 rims needed to be straightened, my front left the most significantly...I feel like sending the bill to the NJTPKE authority...

I think Buffalo, N.Y. takes the blue ribbon for the worlds crappyist roads...although you can only see them for the 3 months of the year they aren't covered with snow...

...part of the reason i live in So Cal now...
