Democrats, taxes, and beer

The "Pasadena Star-News" reports San Jose Democrat Jim Beall has introduced a bill hiking the state tax on beer by 30-cents per can or bottle. The current tax is two-cents. Beal says the stiffer tax would raise two-billion-dollars per year to pay for healthcare, crime prevention and programs to prevent underage drinking and alcohol addition. The tax increase would have to be passed by a two-thirds vote in the state Senate and Assembly. And, because it's an amendment to the state constitution, it would have to be approved by California voters. Republicans say neither of those things will ever happen.

Like a lot of taxes, if I really thought it would work I wouldn't have a problem with it, but this once again would just be wasted. Until the California leaders clean up their own mess, more taxes won't help anything.
Who is this guy?

Typical liberal...they want to raise taxes on everything. It is just a giant ponzi wealth redistribution scheme. Most already have their millions...and they'll be damned is the rest of us have the opportunity to make ours. They know much better how to spend our money than we do....

And that is the distinction between the brie-eating politicians and the great unwashed masses they depend on.

And it was the same with cigarettes too.

And then Dickie Scruggs sued the tobacco companies, and it became in-vogue to tax the hell out of cigarettes. The greedy politicians, seeing a chance to take more money (and increase their influence), are spreading the "sin tax" to other things...

Haha. I guess you weren't picturing UK last night:-P I wouldn't win a game of beer pong to save my life.

I sort of had an idea. I know, it's a crazy one. Like, really far out there. And of course, it would never fly with the Politicians. But imagine this: if instead of spreading tens of billion$ around the globe to rid foreign nations of their problems, we spread it around the United States to rid ourselves of our problems...maybe cigs. wouldn't need to be $4.50 a pack and there'd be no need for another $.30 tax on beer.

I know, crazyness. After all, it IS our duty to piss away all our money "helping" others...

I'm not commenting on the idea of the tax, clearly it's bad, only that this is SOP to get what you want through negotiation in politics, business, etc.

I don't see any politicians cutting spending these days. Ever since Money became Speech, it talks a lot louder than the Public.
