Although Barry Meguiar's toothy smile gives me the creeps, his regular cheapy wax/polish in the purple squeeze bottle seems pretty good to me. I wax my normally garaged car about once a year. In between, soapy wash and rinses always end up with water beads which are, I assume a good measure of paint protection. Or is there some other indicator?

I've used Rejex for a few years now on all of our cars and household windows. The stuff s fantastic and long-lasting!

If you want long-lasting stay away from anything Carnuba- it's crap and a waste of time. Forget Zymol, many Meguirs products, Mothers, etc. All of that crap is gone in 2 days in the hot southern sun.

Stick with a synthetic- Zaino usually tests the best but there are other great products like Rejex and Liquid Glass was a favorite of mine until i discovered Zaino.

a pca concours article said pure Carnuba is best but that hot sun will melt it, or whatever, away.

The writer was wrong :D

I can't imagine using a carnuba if my car was going to get judged- getting all of the wax from the cracks, trim, and emblems is a PITA!

hot sun will break down (degrade) the wax and also cause it to vaporize (slowly) from the surface

Meguairs NXT is a synthetic and far outlasts pure waxes

yes, the synthetics don't cause that white buildup like real waxes does

It was family owned for some crazy amount of time, like 80 years or something, but Meguires was sold to 3M last year. Barry Meguire still works there, though.

One of the reasons for the sale was Meguires had previously made all of their products in the US, and didn't have overseas production. 3M has that, and now a lot of Meguires is made overseas, for even more profit.

Meguires is what I mostly use. And, coincidentially, 3M stuff for some polishes, etc.

Klasse AIO is what I put on my daily drivers.

It's been known to bead water over a year on my 'shooting range car' that gets abused and neglected at every opportunity. If you want to add some depth to the sterile character of the Klasse (which is synthetic) you can apply a coat of carnauba on top. I did this with my Lexus and it looks darned good.

Here's a combo that works for me. Meguiars cleaner to remove pollution and Black Magic wax.

I use Collinite as a last step protection on my car. Water seems to bead well for about 4 months before I feel it needs to be reapplied.

Meguiars NXT, the new formulation I think it is 2.0. My Dark Blue Audi A4 sits out and it seems to last 2-3 months before it gets done again.

I think I met Barry McGuire long long ago...he was the Grandson of the founder...

Zef posted this link on the other thread. If it's true then (1) Zaino Z2, (2) Zymol Natural Liquid Polish, for long lasting.

Black Magic wax on the daily driver

rnln 06-21-2009 02:54 PM

Radioactive,
several questions.
How long does each wax last you? I mean still have the shiny looking coat?
Is it available at any autopart store or online only?
THanks.
