Does you spouse snore? Read this!
 

I usually don't go about touting products and listening to hype, but I've found something that I just have to comment about.

My wife snores. Loudly. How loud is your exhaust? She snores that loud... and with that kind of sound, usually. Like a bucket full of rocks, rolled down a hill....
I can hear her two floors down on occasion.

I suspect sleep apnea.
She sort of hyperventillates in her sleep, breathing very heavy and fast.

She'll snore in any position, and through either her nose or her mouth. Doesn't matter. We've tried everything short of surgery or a C-pap because our health insurance won't cover it.
She saw something recently called Snore Mate which is a mouthpiece designed to move the lower jaw forward.
Couldn't hurt to try one more thing, and the price was reasonable.
I bought two.

This is her second day of using it...for the last two years, we've have opposite sleep schedules during the week, so I'm able to listen while I work. So far, I haven't heard a single snort out of her.

It's a frigging miracle. :eek:

I went upstairs earlier to do something, and actually had to LISTEN HARD to hear of she was breathing or not. She was so silent,I thougtht she was dead!:eek:

I've put up wiht his nw for ten years. I estimate I've lost over half the sleep I need due to being awaken every 20 minutes either by snorting or feeling like my face is being blown off due to heavy breathing. Like sleeping in a hurricane.

Many times, I've thought to leave for my own sanity.:(

I'll give a followup report after the weekend, when our sleep schedules collide.
I look forward o actually being able to sleep with my wife.

We both snore, I'm probably the worse offender. Should we wake up and not be able to get back to sleep we've been able to shove/elbow the offending party to quit. Will keep this invention in mind should conditions worsen.

Wow. I'm sure I could give Jen a run for her money; even the dog leaves the room when I start in. It has been driving Lori-Jo nuts for years; depriving her of much needed sleep. Myself as well; sleep apnea and snoring keep the one doing it from sleeping well, either.

As a result, I have spent the last two years visiting a very prominent, well respected Seattle physician that specializes in sleep apnea and snoring. He has fitted me with a custom mouthpiece that is essentially identical in function to this one. The price of my continued visits, all of the fitting and studies, has now eclipsed $4,000. And I still snore. Not nearly as bad, but still bad enough to interfere with Lori-Jo's sleep. I've pretty much given up on this device and written the guy off as a quack. One of the doctors Lori-Jo works with has had a similar experience, and has arrived at a similar conclusion about this guy and his device.

So, I'm going to try one of these. Why not? The principle is identical. The range of adjustment in this inexpensive one appears to be much greater than my expensive custom piece. Maybe that will prove to be the difference. Maybe it will put this guy out of business.

Anyway, one thing I don't see on their website could be very important. Your jaw can, over time, actually shift permanently to accommodate this device. The doctor stressed the importance of a series of little exercises to ensure it does not. I even had to sign wavers indicating I understood the risks. It's all pretty easy; essentially you just want to move your lower jaw back past where it naturally rests, hold it for awhile, and repeat until it naturally closes on its normal position. That, and the side to side wiggle like we do when some one just popped us in the jaw to see if everything still works. Maybe Jen has never had to do that... Anyway, I can show her next time we're together.

Jeff, one of these days, get your lady to make a short video recording. I'll do the same, and we'll compare "notes" :D
Jen usd to scare the cat bad enough she'd rn away in terror. I remember leaping of the bed a few times out of a dead sleep, wondering what the hell was going on.

Very interesting about the jaw shifting. I don't recall seeing anything about that, but we'll look into it.
There's another, similar product call Pure Sleep. http://puresleep.com/ "FDA cleared" whatever that means.
I don't think the Puresleep is out of South Africa like the Snore Mate...just found out about that one last night during a commercial. Price is similar, I think.

There is a custom mouth-piece used for scuba diving, ~$20, same thing as the ads on TV sell for $60 plus shipping.

you dip them in hot water and mold your lower jaw line forward.......

I recall many an unpleasant night being unable to sleep with my ex-g/f snoring. Luckily she was a psycho, so I had to break up with her. Don't miss that noise.

My ex snored but then so did I. Her big problem, and it really did drive me crazy was that she "chewed" her teeth and it made the strangest sounds I have ever heard. High pitched and if I was not really tired would wake me up. Had to then sleep on the couch as you just could not sleep through it.

Dentist friend of mine made some hard plastic overlays that fit on our lower teeth/jaw and really slowed down the snoring and totally stopped her chewing her teeth. Finally got some descent sleep!

Looks too much like a mouthguard. I'd just end up skating in my dreams, trying to score a "hat trick". The Wife would prefer the snoring.

It IS just a mouthguard. Under $5 at any sporting goods store.

We laugh and joke about snoring, but it's serious to the partners who can't sleep. I snored like a locomotive for decades until I was diagnosed with apnea. Now the forced air doesn't allow the airway to close and vibrate.

Twenty years ago(pre mask), 10 of us from work drove the 100 miles to Palm Springs for a 3 day weekend poker game at a luxury condo. This had been planned for 6 months. I just about single-handedly ruined it when several couldn't sleep due to my snoring and I think some actually left early.

For my 40th (pre mask) the wife bought me tickets to Bob Bondurant driving classes in Phoenix. Two friends joined me. We had two rooms and my roomie left our room after 3 hours. Glad he had the choice at no extra costs because the hotel was full.

Sure it's funny to look back and laugh at this stuff, but it's rather embarrassing and heaven forbid falling asleep on a plane or train.....

I'm a BAD snorer (friend had to use his shooting earmuffs when we stayed in the same trailer one night...)

You can have my CPAP machine when you pry it from my cold dead face, and even then, probably over the objections of my wife...

try those breathe right strips, snoring is a sign of sleep apnea too, BTW, which can be pretty serious if you like your brain adequately oxygenated

We have tried those. We've tried everything except the C-pap and surgery.

The sprays are complete junk, and the BreathRight strips don't work either. At least, for my wife they didn't.

These "mouthguards" are the only thing to have made any difference.

I read this thread, and figured what the heck and ordered one of these items.

Nope. It's a mouthguard designed for a severe underbite, some thing a regular mouthguard will not allow for.
That doesn't justify the significantly higher cost, but it is different.

Think of the benefit to PPOT. :)

Mrs. Wolfe here. Sorry that you started to get spam after ordering, I used my email to order and didn't see any change in spam (I get a fair amount anyway, but Thunderbird deletes 95% before I ever see it.) We got our order less than a week after we got the email. Hopefully it works as well for you as it has for me ( hopefully it continues for me!)

So far, I have great things to report. I have not heard my wife snore ONCE since she started using this. Even when she doesn't have it in, she doesn't seem to be snoring any more. Maybe it forced her to "learn" to sleep with her jaw slightly forward to open her airways. Doesn't matter...she's not snoring any more. Her breathing has normalized.
Last night was the first night in almost ten years that I've slept in the same bed as my wife and didn't want to rip my eardrums out.:)
