Florida girl beating

What the hell is going on with kids today!? I believe video games have them so removed from reality they don't know how wrong this act was. If that were my daughter they would all be dead.

Been going on long before Video games, some of the most brutal beatings I have ever witnessed was between 2 girls in Middle school by the time they were pulled apart one was a bloody mess and this was in 1980.

Video games are not to blame poor parenting is.

From the news the video they are showing the girl had already been knocked out in a back room, and then is repeatedly attacked while she is trying to leave. I'd guess that after she was knocked out she probably wasn't thinking too clearly.

I just saw it on the news, so its o.k. for evening news to show this girl getting beat but its wrong for you tube? Local news is showing it for profit?

Like I said this is nothing new, its just all over the place now because we are so global now.

It seems the beaten girl posted threats to the other girls on her myspace page so the other girls grabbed her, kidnapped her, detained her and beat her silly, she deaf in one ear now, or so they say on the news, she might recover 100% but we will never hear about it.

Maybe Myspace needs to be shut down and not video games?

Also they are beating this 16 year old girl in someones home, where are the parents? Are they all just out on their own.

Furthermore little Lindsey seems to have problems of her own, trust me this little gaggle of girls were not very good kids and are the kind most of us parents that care about our kids try to keep away from.

Quote:
Patrick Lindsay, who still refuses to look at the taped beating, is advocating for removal of these types of videos from Internet sites like MySpace and YouTube.

"As far as I am concerned, MySpace is the anti-Christ for children," he said. "I hope this comes to a final resolution. I am not going to stop here."

Lindsay, her father acknowledges, wasn't perfect and had her share of problems, and was not living at home at the time of the incident.

After an argument with her parents, Lindsay had been living with Nichols for about a week when the beating occurred.
Daddy thinks Myspace is the Anti-christ but his 16 y/o daughter is allowed to have an account on there. My 15 y/o son does not have one, and his 14 y/o cousin, a girl, is not allowed to have one since she likes to put up a profile that she is 17 years old. My sis-in-law monitors her closely and she is not allowed online unsupervised. But, she is being a parent.

Here's another tragic story with a video-game theme. This time it's an "adult" that deserves a special place in hell. Stuff like this just makes me sick to my stomach.

Why do parents even allow their kids to waste their time on computers? I don't care if all the other kids socialize on it. My daughter won't be on it.

The only thing this has to do with computers is that it brings visibility to things that have always been happening and always will. We now have the means to quicky video everything. This stuff happened 25 years ago when I was in school.

I think you have your answer right in your comments.

If parents teach their children that "taking matters into your own hands using violence to achieve goals" is acceptable, why does it surprise you when children do the same?

Correct. Kids can just organize "after-hours" more easily now.

re:"I think you have your answer right in your comments."

What would you do if they were beating your daughter? Step in and resolve it or call the police while they beat her to death?
I am not saying my actions would be defensible. I am saying that as a parent I would have been moved to take matters into my own hands in an admittedly emotional response to this. If I were there I would have shot the *****es that did this.
And no, the victim was not totally blameless, nor were any of the parents involved.
Video games teach users that there is no accounting for bad behavior, you simply restart and everything is OK. It is a bigger problem than most people realize. It will oneday be apparent to all.
No one plays video games in my house.
The only computer is in the family room.

I would blame natural instincts that have not yet been stamped out by millenia of ever more cushy societal living.

I bet you 5,000 years ago, this sort of beat down was the norm.

It makes sense

Whenever I played video games in high school it almost always getting a bunch of guys together to have FIFA tournaments or getting online and playing Killzone with my friends and talking with a headset. Now in college, I will occasionally play something on my own, but 99% of the time I only play video games with other people. We usually bust out the N64 and play Mario Kart of NFL Blitz.

Jackie Chan & Jet Li are OK, but what about Scarface and the Godfather?

from the article:

Olson noted that many of the studies done by psychologists in recent years, which have tied aggression in video games to aggressive behaviour, "don't seem viable".

In addition, Kutner clarified the difference between short-term and long-term aggression effects.

He said: "If you go to the local Cineplex and see a Jackie Chan or Jet Li movie and you watch a bunch of teenagers come out of that, of course they're going to be sort of hitting each other and kicking; you know, they're excited. But that goes away very quickly.

"And so there's this leap of faith that if a child or teenager or even a young adult is exposed to this and they have a short term response, then that means it's going to change their behaviour. We found it to be actually quite the opposite.”

Thanks to GameDaily for the story.
