Hell everyone talks about CA shaking? Just ride it out like we do!

read about how the mantle/crust is more brittle east of the rockies so the same size earthquake in the Midwest is much worse than one on the west coast. just sumpthin to thunk about.

Indeed. The New Madrid, Missouri earthquake (M7.0+/-) of 1812 rang church bells in Boston. New Madrid is an active seismic zone and a repeat of the 1812 event would make hurricane Katrina look like a picnic.

Yawn, I won't even bother to get out of bed in the middle of the night to see if anything fell down for a 5.2.

When we had our back a few years ago here in Napa, you didn't have a choice.
We were thrown out of bed.

What did it sound like? Like everything in your house breaking all at once.
For some people, that was what is was.

Crazy, west of Highway 29, lots of damage. East, very little.

I think it's that the Madrid fault is in the middle of the north american plate, vs the San Andreas et al which are at the edges of the pacific / north american plates. With two plates (the edges of which are all cracked up) the distance of propagation is a lot less....
