My friend's dad kept a pile of scrap lumber in the backyard, with plenty of tools in the garage. What we built looked like a shanty, but in our mind they were much more. Funny that one of my fondest childhood memories involves junk lumber and nails.

I agree with Paul - it's a shame. BUT it isn't due just to sex (popn. growth) - in fact sprawl in the US has grown 4x faster than the popn.

I wish I had some pics of the swamp I used to play in as a kid - we built rafts out of green wood, built trails you name it - now a huge shopping mall in Baton Rouge.
