Awful. Mankind is not used to die like that anymore. I suppose the bear figured he was done training.

They are talking about killing the bear, saying he's a killer. No, he isn't. He's a BEAR! A GRIZZLY BEAR! Grizzly bears are supposed to bite people, it's what they do.
People who get close enough to a grizzly bear to get bit are the ones who should be put down, they are too stupid to be alive. Reminds me of that idiot who used to live with the grizzlies in Alaska. He thought they were accepting him into their social system, but actually they were just fattening him up. He was bear food, which was perfect because he wasn't smart enough to be anything else. Stay away from bears (and tigers, and snakes, and crocodiles, and stingrays) or you might get killed! It really isn't that hard of a concept. Asshats, every one of em. |

I don't think you train bears. You may find a way to have them tolerate you for a while. I wouldn't want to be there when they tire of you. I do disagree on one point though. He IS a killer. That's what grizzlys are. As are lions, sharks, tigers, etc. We're nothing more to them that maybe a threat and a possible meal.

Saw this on the news, they aren't killing the bear... they decided he had no history of attacking, etc. and hte trainer knew that getting in the cage was dangerous. Good call...

That nut who lived among the Grizzlies in AK was begging for it. Timothy Baldwin, was it? True nut who was accomplishing exactly the opposite of his stated goals. Those fools don't understand that, by having such close and regular contact with wildlife, they increase the chances of that wildlife getting too comfortable with and thus too close to humans. And that's an accident waiting to happen. He and his GF were dinner for one of his bear friends. I think they found his arm with his watch still on the wrist and that was about it.
Reminds me of the joke about the two buddies packing for a camping trip. One saw the other packing a pair of running shoes and asked what they wee for. He said it was in case they came across a bear. The other guy said, "You ain't never gonna outrun a bear." First guy replied, "I don't have to outrun the bear. I just have to outrun you."
